Red Eye (cross-reference: Red Eye ) is a suspense thriller directed by Wes Craven in 2005 . It was produced by DreamWorks Pictures . The film, shot in the USA , opened in US cinemas on August 4, 2005 and in German cinemas on September 8, 2005.
The title of the film is derived from the English term "Red Eye Flights", which means night flights . The passengers of such flights often leave the aircraft with red eyes due to lack of sleep.
action
Hotel worker Lisa Reisert returns to Miami from Dallas after her grandmother's funeral . While waiting for the late night flight, she meets the likable Jackson Rippner. The two passengers also sit next to each other on the plane. During the flight, Rippner reveals himself as a contract killer .
His clients want to murder the deputy minister of the Ministry of Homeland Security Charles Keefe, who is staying with his family in Lisa's hotel. In the event Lisa doesn't help them, he threatens to have her father, Joe, killed. Lisa first tries to make other passengers aware of her situation by making notes in a book and a message in the toilet. When all attempts fail, she finally gives in and calls her colleague to move the Keefe family to another hotel room, where the family is to be killed by a rocket.
After landing, Lisa manages to escape by ramming a pen into the throat of the person sitting next to her. However, Rippner does not give up and pursues Lisa, but without success. She can warn the colleague in her hotel just in time of the impending attack so that the Keefes can be brought to safety. Since the battery of her cell phone is empty after the call, she cannot reach her father and drives to her father's house. At the last moment she overpowers the hit man who was supposed to kill her father by running over him. But suddenly Rippner appears in the house. He wants to kill Lisa and her father in revenge for the failed plan. A wild chase ensues through the house that only ends when she and her father shoot Jackson Rippner in self-defense.

criticism
- Lexicon of the international film : “A fast-paced thriller that is just as exciting as it is virtuoso, which plays confidently on the keyboard of effects and lets the plot escalate without interruption. The film can also be read subliminally as a precise description of American society, as a gender struggle and as a political commentary. "
- Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com : “When Craven says“ bounces! ”We all jump at once, and giggle at how easily we fell under his spell. The key is that Craven laughs with us, not at us. "
- Wesley Morris, Boston.com : "At 66, Craven seems to have forgotten that he still had to work, even after effectively killing his beloved genre."
