Rachel Anne McAdams (born November 17, 1978 in London , Ontario ) is a Canadian actress .

life and career

McAdams was born the daughter of a truck driver and nurse and grew up in the small town of St. Thomas . She has a younger brother and sister. She began acting at the age of 13, and after attending the Central Elgin Collegiate Institute in St. Thomas, she studied acting at York University in Toronto .

She had her first roles in television films and series such as Shotgun Love Dolls and Mission Earth: You Are Among Us . She made her big screen debut in 2002 in the Italian-Canadian co-production My Name Is Tanino . For her role in the small-town drama Perfect Pie , she was nominated for a Genie Award as best newcomer and caught the eye of Hollywood. Her next film was the 2002 comedy Hot Chick , in which she starred alongside Rob Schneider . However, she achieved greater fame in 2004 alongside Lindsay Lohan in the film Girls Club - Beware of the Snappy! , for which Tina Fey wrote the script. While playing the typical high school teen in these films , she turned to more serious and adult roles in Like a Single Day (2004). While filming, she also met Ryan Gosling , to whom she was later engaged; the couple announced their split in 2007.

At the 2004 MTV Movie Awards , McAdams earned a record nomination in five categories, including best actress and best newcomer. Her portrayal in the film Like a Single Day was even recognized and praised in the New York Times. McAdams was also a nominee at the Teen Choice Awards .

In 2005, McAdams starred in three films. In the comedy The Wedding Crashers , she played alongside Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn . In the thriller Red Eye , she worked with director Wes Craven , who is best known for his horror series Scream and Nightmare . Her performance was recognized again and so the actress qualified in this genre as well. After all, she was at the side of Sarah Jessica Parker in the comedy The Stone Family. to see.

At this point, McAdams was already being referred to as the new It girl and "the new Julia Roberts ". Between 2006 and 2007, she withdrew from the public eye to take care of her family and herself. In Malick's drama To the Wonder she is seen as the lover of Ben Affleck , while in De Palma's thriller Passion (a remake of Alain Corneau's Love and Intrigue from 2010) she stars alongside Noomi Rapace . Both films were invited to compete at the 69th Venice International Film Festival .

She was shortlisted for the role of Rachel Creed for the 2014 remake of Stephen King's "Cemetery of Stuffed Animals". In November 2014 its commitment for a leading role in the second season of the series was True Detective radio station HBO known. She was there alongside Colin Farrell , Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch .

In 2015 she took on a bigger role in the movie Spotlight , for which she received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 2016 Academy Awards .

McAdams lives in Toronto with her family . She has had a relationship with screenwriter Jamie Linden since 2016 . Their son was born in 2018.

Dubbing voice

Rachel McAdams is dubbed in the German version of almost all films by Ranja Bonalana . Exceptions were the films Like a single day and Married Life , in which she was dubbed by Dascha Lehmann and Vera Teltz , as well as The Lucky Ones and Passion , for which Kaya Marie Möller and Ulrike Stürzbecher McAdams lent their voices.
