Eric Bana (* 9. August 1968 in Melbourne , Victoria as Eric Banadinović ) is an Australian actor , screenwriter and film producer . He became known for his leading roles in the films Hulk , Troja and Munich .

biography

Early life

Eric Bana was born to Ivan Banadinović, a Croatian employee or manager at Caterpillar , and his wife Eleanor, a German hairdresser. He actually wanted to be a car mechanic and racing driver. At first he tried odd jobs such as car washer or as a bartender in a hotel bar, where he also appeared as a stand-up comedian.

Bana then studied acting in Sydney and appeared in several Shakespeare performances. He was later accepted at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney.

Career

After completing his studies, Bana began a career as a comedian and was best known for the Australian comedy sketch series Full Frontal . He also hosted the TV show Eric , for which he also wrote the scripts and worked as a co-producer. He also performed live in the variety show The Eric Bana Show . The most established character of his early career was Poida , an Australian "bogan" (a term used in Australia and New Zealand to describe a white, working-class young man).

After a small role in the Australian low-budget hit The Castle (1997), Bana retired from the entertainment industry for a few years. He returned to the big screen in 2000 for the film Chopper . Chopper received mostly positive reviews and won three Australian Film Institute Awards , including that for Best Actor.

Bana, who had put on 15 kilos for the film, won three other film awards. The American film critic Roger Ebert praised Bana's screen presence and prophesied that he would become a star.

He then took on the role of Norm "Hoot" Gibson in Ridley Scott's film Black Hawk Down . Russell Crowe recommended Scott Bana, who not only lost weight for the role of soldier, he also trained with Delta Force soldiers at Fort Bragg .

He also starred in the Australian comedy The Nugget and starred in Ang Lee's comic book adaptation of the Hulk . On the recommendation of Brad Pitt , he played the role of Hector in Troy . In Steven Spielberg's film Munich about the 1972 Olympic attack , he played the role of the Israeli Mossad agent Avner.

2007 Bana also starred in Curtis Hanson's Poker - Drama luck in the game and in Romulus, My Father . In the historical love drama The Queen's Sister , he starred as Henry VIII at the side of Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson . In 2009 he starred in the bestseller film Die Zeitreisende's wife, directed by Robert Schwentke, and in the eleventh Star Trek film as the villain Nero . In the same year he made his debut as a director with the documentary Love the Beast . At the beginning of 2013, he played the leading role as an advertising medium in the short film Duels by Matteo Garrone for the campaign for the men's fragrance Man Extreme by Bulgari .

Bana is mostly dubbed by Benjamin Völz .

Personal

Bana is married to Rebecca Gleeson, a former publicist for the Australian broadcasting company Seven Network (including producer of the television series Full Frontal ). You have two children and live in Melbourne.

Bana is a huge motorsport fan and often races in his home country. He is also a fan of Australian football and supports the St. Kilda Football Club .
