Ryan Thomas Gosling (born November 12, 1980 in London , Ontario ) is a Canadian actor , film director , screenwriter and musician .

Early years and careers

Ryan Gosling was born in November 1980 in London in the Canadian province of Ontario and grew up in Cornwall (Ontario) . He took his first artistic steps in 1989 at the Mickey Mouse Club . There he performed with Britney Spears , Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake . After appearing in various series in the late 1990s, Gosling starred in Inside a Skinhead in 2001 . The film won the Sundance Film Festival jury award. He then had leading roles in Hollywood films such as Mord nach Plan (2002) with Sandra Bullock and Ben Chaplin and in independent cinema such as State of Mind alongside Kevin Spacey and Lena Olin .

Gosling made his breakthrough as an actor in 2006 with the independent film Half Nelson , in which he acted alongside Shareeka Epps . The title role of a junior high school drug addicted teacher earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in 2007 , starring in the comedy Lars and the Women a Golden Globe nomination. In 2008 he founded the band Dead Man's Bones with fellow Canadian actor Zach Shields . The debut album of the same name was released in October 2009 on ANTI Records . He received another Golden Globe nomination in 2011 for the lead role in the relationship drama Blue Valentine . A year later, at the Golden Globe Awards 2012 , Gosling was also nominated in two categories: Best Actor in a Comedy / Musical for his role in Crazy, Stupid, Love. and Best Actor in a Drama for his portrayal in The Ides of March .

In 2013 he was seen in the movies The Place Beyond the Pines and Only God Forgives , which were made in collaboration with directors Derek Cianfrance and Nicolas Winding Refn . In the spring of 2013, filming for the film Lost River began , in which Gosling not only made his directorial debut, but was also responsible for the script. In addition to girlfriend Eva Mendes , the cast of the film also includes actresses Christina Hendricks and Saoirse Ronan . At the end of April it was announced that Johnny Jewel would be responsible for the curation and production of the soundtrack . Lost River , first produced under the name How to Catch a Monster , premiered on May 20, 2014 during the Cannes International Film Festival .

In 2016 Gosling sang and danced alongside Emma Stone in Damien Chazelle's musical La La Land . The part of pianist Sebastian, who is enthusiastic about jazz , brought him a Golden Globe Award and another Oscar nomination in 2017 . In 2018 the film Aufbruch zum Mond (First Man) was released, in which Gosling played the leading role of test pilot and astronaut Neil Armstrong . Gosling worked again with director Chazelle on this film.

Since Drive, Gosling has mainly been dubbed by Tommy Morgenstern , before his voice actors were mostly Kim Hasper or Tobias Kluckert .

Private life

Ryan Gosling and two of his friends opened a Moroccan restaurant called Tagine in Beverly Hills in 2004 . In June 2005, his relationship with fellow actor Rachel McAdams was revealed. They met and fell in love on the set of Like One Day . The relationship didn't last and the two separated in July 2007.

Since September 2011 Gosling has been in a relationship with his colleague Eva Mendes , with whom he also made his directorial debut. In September 2014, the two parents had a daughter. The second daughter was born in April 2016.
