Screen Actors Guild Award / Best Actor
The Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor (Original Name: Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role ) is one of the awards given annually in the United States by the Screen Actors Guild , a union of actors. It is aimed at actors who have excelled in a leading role in a feature film . The category was launched in 1995. The winners will be determined in a secret ballot by the full members of the union.

Since it was first awarded, the Screen Actors Guild has awarded a total of 25 awards in the Best Actor category to 23 different actors. The first winner was Tom Hanks , who was recognized in 1995 for his role as Forrest Gump in Robert Zemeckis ' drama of the same name . The last winner so far was Joaquin Phoenix , who was honored in 2020 for his role as Arthur Fleck in Joker .
As of the 2020 award ceremony , the winner in this category did not agree with the eventual Oscar winner in five cases . These were Benicio del Toro in 2001 for his role in Traffic - the power of the cartel (he won the Oscar for best supporting male role instead ), Russell Crowe in 2002 for A Beautiful Mind , Daniel Day-Lewis in 2003 for Gangs of New York , Johnny Depp 2004 for Pirates of the Caribbean and Denzel Washington 2017 for Fences .
The oldest winner at the age of 62 in 2017 was the American Denzel Washington ( Fences ); The oldest nominated actor with 79 years of age in 2011 is the American Robert Duvall ( At the end of the road - A true story of lies ). The youngest winner, aged 32, was Nicolas Cage ( Leaving Las Vegas ) in 1996 ; Youngest nominee actor at the age of 14 2001 British Jamie Bell ( Billy Elliot - I Will Dance ).
