Impeccably ( Flawless ) is an American film comedy from Joel Schumacher from the year 1999 .
action
Walter Koontz is an early retirement officer in the New York City Police Department . He has prejudices against homosexuals, which he also lets his transsexual neighbor Rusty Zimmerman feel. He harshly rejects an acquaintance who is interested in him, while the woman he goes out with is only interested in his money.
Koontz is caught in a shootout with a drug lord's debt collector. During the incident, he suffered a stroke that left him partially paralyzed on the right side and with speech problems.
As part of his rehabilitation he needs vocal exercises, which he has to take from Rusty of all places due to the lack of other options. Koontz befriends him and some homosexuals over time. When the collectors track down the drug dealer who owes Zimmerman money, Koontz defends his friend.
Reviews
James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the joy of seeing Robert De Niro was overshadowed by the "flat", "insulting" and "contrived" plot. The stereotypical characters would not develop, which diluted any "humanity" of the script. The film is "banal" and "formulaic".
The lexicon of international films wrote: "A film developed on the drawing board without psychological credibility, which is committed to tolerance and the overcoming of prejudices, but which addresses these topics too superficially and exploits them rather than treating them with respect."
Awards
Philip Seymour Hoffman won the San Diego Film Critics Society Award in 1999 and the Golden Satellite Award and an award from the Verona Love Screens Film Festival ( Festival del Cinema Sentimentale e Melò ) in 2000 .
