Nashom Benjamin Wooden (* 9. October 1969 in Brooklyn , New York ; † 23. March 2020 the same place) was an American singer and drag queen .

Live and act

The African American grew up in Brooklyn. From 1989 he was known as a drag queen under the name Mona Foot and an important member of the gay scene in New York in the 1990s and early 2000s.

As Nashom Benjamin he had an appearance in the film Immaculate (1999) by Joel Schumacher , where he played the role of Amazing Grace on the side of Robert De Niro and Philip Seymour Hoffman .

Wooden was a member and singer of the electro pop band "The Ones", which consisted of drag queens. The band had a hit with Flawless in 1999, which went to number 4 on the Billboard charts, number 7 in the UK and number 2 on the Belgian charts . George Michael borrowed some verses from the song for the song Flawless-Go to the City .

Wooden had suffered from HIV for many years , but was medically well adjusted. He had difficulty breathing and a fever a few days before he died; The doctors left him in home quarantine , where he died on March 23, 2020 as a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection and was found by a friend.

He was cremated and buried in Green-Wood Cemetery .
