The Woterfitzsee is southeast of the Müritz in the Mecklenburg Lake District lying lake in the district of Mecklenburg Lake District , Mecklenburg-Vorpommern .

geography

The Woterfitzsee is located in the northeast of the municipality of Rechlin . It has a circular shape at an approximate length of 2360 meters and an approximate width of 1860 meters. It is embedded in a sand area and is partly surrounded by swampy terrain. In the north and east there are some larger fish ponds. The lake is located in the Müritz National Park . The south and west banks are wooded and the bank is surrounded by an almost continuous belt of reeds. The lake is closed to motorboat traffic and is located on a popular water hiking route via Mirow to Müritz.

history

After the ice sheet thawed in the Frankfurt stage of the Vistula Ice Age, the lake was created from a large field of dead ice, which was buried by sand sands from the inland ice advancing again in the Pomeranian stage. With the subsequent warming, the spilled dead ice also thawed. At these points, a depression formed on the sand surface that forms today's lake.
