Tullio Crali (born December 6, 1910 in Igalo , then Kingdom of Dalmatia , Austria-Hungary , now Montenegro , † August 5, 2000 in Milan , Italy ) was an Italian painter of Futurism .

Life

Crali was born to an Italian-speaking family from Zara in Dalmatia in a small town at the entrance to the Bay of Cattaro . In 1922 the family moved to Gorizia in Friuli . There he completed the technical school and came in 1925 under the influence of Giacomo Balla and Enrico Prampolini and his first flight experience in 1928. From then on he devoted himself to aeropittura (painting of aerial impressions) and after being accepted into the circle of futurists in 1929 one of the most important representatives of this art direction. In the following years he came into contact with Filippo Tommaso Marinetti , who invited him to participate in the first exhibition of the Italian Aeropittori in Paris in 1932, after he had already had several exhibitions in Italy.

In addition, Crali also dealt with stage design and created architectural designs. Even after the Second World War , he initially remained faithful to Futurism and worked in Turin and then from 1950 to 1958 in Paris, finally teaching at the Scuola d'Arte Italia in Cairo , Egypt , from 1962 to 1966 . There he developed his Sassintesi , an abstract form of Futurism. From 1966 he worked mainly for the Futurism Museum in Milan .

In 1999, Crali bequeathed his correspondence and other documents to the Museo di arte moderna e contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto (MART), in Rovereto , Province of Trento , along with 41 works, which were followed by 48 more in the year he died.

Crali was married to Adolfina Savelli and had a son. He was buried in Macerata , his wife's hometown.
