Bruce Roberts

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bruce A. Roberts (* 1950 ) is an American singer-songwriter who has been writing hits and songs for countless artists since the late 1960s. His greatest successes include the disco songs The Main Event / Fight for Barbra Streisand and No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) , a duet between Streisand and Donna Summer that was number one in the USA for two weeks at the end of 1979 .

Life

Roberts' first success as a songwriter came in 1969 for country singer Billie Jo Spears , who debuted on the US country charts with He's Got More Love in His Little Finger . His first Top 10 success was in 1977 You're Moving Out Today for Carole Bayer Sager, with whom he would work more often in the future. Bette Midler was also involved as co-writer on this song, which in turn had a small hit with it in the USA.

Roberts positioned himself in a broad style in the following decades. He wrote hits for pop , soul , R&B , rock or country artists and adapted to the respective fashions, for example when disco music became established in the mid-1970s. Roberts received two Golden Globe nominations for his achievements . Although Roberts was mostly successful in the USA, he also had a few international hits. The top 10 hit Flames of Paradise , a duet by Elton John and Jennifer Rush, was particularly successful in German-speaking countries .

Roberts tried in vain to get recognition as an interpreter. His two Elektra albums did not sell well, and after a 15-year hiatus on the record market, the Atlantic album Intimacy made only modest headlines. Many of the songs on these albums were recorded by other artists, some of them very successfully. His only hit in the US dance charts When the Money's Gone (1995, with background vocals by Elton John) was released only a few years later on Cher's album Believe .

His recent major successes include the two dance hits I Got Your Love (2005) and To Paris with Love (2010), both of which he wrote for and with Donna Summer.
