Mathieu Lanes
Mathieu Lanes (born 1660 ; died 1725 in Toulouse ) was a French composer , organist and harpsichordist .
life and work
Little is known about the life of Mathieu Lanes, except that he was organist and choirmaster at the Saint-Etienne cathedral in Toulouse at the beginning of the 18th century . He is known from a 134-page manuscript entitled Petites pièces d'orgue de M. Lanes ("Little Organ Pieces by M. Lanes") (1710–1722) with 90 anonymous pieces for the organ and François Couperin's harpsichord pieces ( Le Rossignol en amour , Double du Rossignol en amour , Fanfare pour la suite de Diane , La Voluptueuse ), kept in the Bibliothèque du Conservatoire municipal de Toulouse (Library of the Municipal Conservatory) of Toulouse. Certain pieces in it, such as the gavote , the rondeau , the piémontoise ( rondeau double ), and the sonata in G major , are likely intended for the harpsichord .
