Norbert Dufourcq

Norbert Dufourcq (born September 21, 1904 in Saint-Jean-de-Braye near Orléans , † December 19, 1990 in Paris ) was a French music historian and organist .

Live and act

Norbert Dufourcq studied at the École nationale des chartes . He had organ lessons with André Marchal (1894–1980). Dufourcq was organist at Saint-Merry in Paris from 1923 until his death . Together with Bérenger de Miramon Fitz-James , he founded the Amis de l'Orgue . Over the years, most of France's well-known organists have taken part in the organ competitions organized by this society. In addition, he published the quarterly magazine L'Orgue . He taught music history from 1941 to 1975 at the Paris Conservatory and from 1958 to 1963 musicology at the École Normale de Musique . Dufurcq wrote writings on the history of music and in particular on the history of the organ. In addition, he also emerged as the editor of works by French composers of the 17th and 18th centuries.
