St. Elmo's Fire is an American film by director Joel Schumacher from 1985. Today it is considered a classic of so-called teenage films. Some of the actors were included in the Brat Pack and were among the most hopeful talents of their generation.
action
The film tells the story of seven young people who enter professional life after graduating from Georgetown University and try to find their own identity. The story is told in episodes.
Billy dreams of a career as a musician, but falls for alcohol. Cocaine addict Jules sleeps with her boss in order to climb the corporate ladder at the bank. Social worker Wendy can't get away from her parents and falls in love with Billy. Law student Kirby, who also works as a waiter, falls in love with budding doctor Dale. Yuppie Alec works for a Republican senator and wants to marry architecture student Leslie, and last but not least, Kevin, the gang's romantic dreamer who wants to become a writer. His secret is that he is hopelessly in love with Leslie.
St. Elmo's Fire is often mentioned in the same breath as The Breakfast Club and is one of many films from the 1980s that are about identifying and growing up young people of the time.

criticism
“Group portrait told in episodes, which is staged without pathos and gestures, but is all too pleasing in the description of growing up. What is remarkable is the image of young people today who are noticeable less for rebellion than for adapting to the given reality. "
