John Parr (born November 18, 1952 in Worksop, Nottinghamshire ) is a British rock musician and songwriter . His biggest success is St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion) from 1985.

Career

John Parr comes from Newcastle , where he formed a band called The Silence at the age of twelve years with two school friends, with whom he also Europe toured. Parr later moved to a band called Ponders End, which had a good reputation as a live act in Newcastle (then alongside Dire Straits ), but never made it to a record deal .

In 1983 Parr got his own recording deal and worked with John Wolfe (the manager of The Who ) and in the USA with Meat Loaf , for whose album Bad Attitude Parr wrote a song.

Naughty Naughty was the name of John Parr's first success, which hit especially the radio stations specializing in rock in the USA. In 1985 he went on a tour with his band The Business as opening act for Toto . At the end of the tour, the producer David Foster offered him the theme song for the film St. Elmo's Fire - The passion burns deeply . The catchy rock song became a worldwide hit and brought Parr several awards, including a Grammy nomination. For the film American Anthem he contributed the song Two Hearts , which is also included on Parr's 1986 album Running the Endless Mile .

St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion) was to be John Parr's only big success. He wrote Under a Raging Moon for Roger Daltrey and worked as a writer and producer with Marilyn Martin and again with Meat Loaf ( Rock & Roll Mercenaries ) as well as for various films; He contributed Westward Ho to the German film Go Trabi Go .

He sang for the Pepsi Company and the Jack Calmes Satellite TV Corporation in an elaborately staged show that was broadcast worldwide, for which the Olympic flame was lit once again in Los Angeles to the sound of St. Elmo's Fire .

The song The River Runs Deep , which was previously released as a single from the 1996 album Under Parr , achieved a certain popularity through its use as the title song of the television series Use for Lohbeck in the First , but it was also unable to place itself in the national or international charts.
