Marilyn Martin (born May 4, 1954 in Louisville , Kentucky ) is an American pop singer .

Marilyn Martin worked as a background singer for artists such as Stevie Nicks , Joe Walsh , Tom Petty and Kenny Loggins . In 1985 she became known worldwide as the duet partner of Phil Collins in his ballad Separate Lives . The title reached # 1 in the US , Ireland and Canada . In 1986 the debut album named after the singer was released. The pre-release single Night Moves reached number 28 on the Hot 100 , but the album had only moderate success at number 72.

After the failure of the second album This Is Serious in 1988, she got no new record deal from her record company Atlantic . In the 1990s she was active again as a background singer. In 2012 she released an album of Christian pop music.
