Joe Walsh
Joseph Fidler "Joe" Walsh (* 20th November 1947 in Wichita , Kansas ) is an American rock - guitarist . He has been a member of the Eagles since 1976 .
Life
While studying oboe and clarinet at Kent State University, Walsh played in various local bands, first bass and later guitar.
In 1969 he became known as the lead guitarist of the James Gang . The James Gang had several small hits and produced four long-playing records .
1971 Walsh left the band to start a solo career. His first solo works, Barnstorm from 1972 and the successor The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get from 1973 cemented his status as a rock musician . His distinctive voice also contributed to the fact that he was able to establish himself as a solo performer. Several tracks on these albums, notably Rocky Mountain Way, were widely played on the radio and are still popular examples of the classic rock genre.
After another studio and live album , Walsh was invited to join the Eagles in 1976 , where he replaced the outgoing second guitarist Bernie Leadon . He introduced a more rock-heavy sound there and was largely responsible for the style of their very successful album Hotel California . The guitar solo at the end of the title song , played jointly by Walsh and Don Felder , was voted best solo of all time by Guitarist magazine in 1998 and eighth in the top 100 guitar solos by Guitar Magazine in 1998 .
When the Eagles approached their temporary end in 1978, Walsh worked again as a solo musician. His two albums, But Seriously Folks (1978) and There Goes The Neighborhood (1981), sold well. He recorded other albums during the 1980s, but musical trends passed him by.
In 1990 Walsh toured with Jeff Baxter ( Steely Dan , Doobie Brothers ), John Entwistle ( The Who ), Keith Emerson ( Emerson, Lake & Palmer ) and the distinguished studio drummer Simon Phillips through Hawaii and Japan under the band name The Best . An album of this line-up never came off.
On October 18, 1991 Joe Walsh appeared on the occasion of the world exhibition Expo 92 in Seville (Spain) together with Steve Vai , Brian May , Joe Satriani and others in the context of the concert series Las Leyendas De La Guitarra .
Until the reunification of the Eagles in 1994 and a concert tour together in the late 1990s, little was heard from him.
Joe Walsh has also performed and recorded with other artists, including Ringo Starr , Dan Fogelberg , Nicky Hopkins and Steve Winwood . He also appeared briefly in The Blues Brothers and starred in an episode of the eleventh season of the US series Criminal Minds .
In 2011, Rolling Stone listed Walsh as 54th of the 100 best guitarists of all time .
In addition, he works as a radio amateur with the callsign WB6ACU.
