Heartache Tonight is a 1979 song by the Eagles written by Don Henley , Glenn Frey , JD Souther and Bob Seger and produced by Bill Szymczyk. It appeared on the album The Long Run .
history
Heartache Tonight was created on a jam session with Don Henley and JD Souther who visited Glenn Frey's house when he was on tour. Frey and Souther wrote the first verse while listening to a Sam Cooke song on the radio . Bob Seger called, they talked to him about the song and Seger gave you the inspiration for the chorus. Henley then refined the rhythm. In an interview Frey said: "JD [Souther], Don and I finished that song up. No heavy lyrics - the song is more of a romp - and that's what it was intended to be." (JD, Don and I completed the song. Not a lot of lyrics - the song is more of a romp and that's how it should be).
The rock song was released on September 18, 1979, and became a number one hit in the United States and Canada . The Recording Industry Association of America awarded the song with a gold record for sales of one million copies . At the Grammy Awards in 1980 , the song was awarded in the category of Best Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal Rock .
