Career start

Randy was born in Scottsbluff , Nebraska, the son of Russian-German tenant farmers and had his first appearances in 1961 at the age of fifteen with a local band called "The Dynamics". In 1965 he moved to California to tour with the band "The Poor". In 1968 he founded the band Poco with Richie Furay and Jim Messina after Furay and Messina left Buffalo Springfield . Randy Meisner can be heard on Poco's first record, Pickin 'Up the Pieces , but was kicked out of the band after disagreements with the other musicians. He then joined Ricky Nelson and his "Stone Canyon Band", with whom he celebrated his first major successes. He also played bass for James Taylor in the studio for his Sweet Baby James album. In the summer of 1971 he switched to Linda Ronstadt's backing band , where he met Don Henley , Glenn Frey and Bernie Leadon , with whom he founded the Eagles at the end of 1971 .

The Eagles

After David Geffen's four musicians were signed to his label Asylum Records , they released their first album Eagles in 1972 . Meisner stayed with the Eagles for six years and can be heard on a total of five albums as bassist and (background) singer, including Hotel California . Due to problems within the band and longing for his family in Scottsbluff, Randy Meisner had been thinking of an end with the band for a long time. After a tangible argument with Glenn Frey before a concert, Randy Meisner announced his departure from the Eagles in September 1977 . He was replaced by Timothy B. Schmit , who had already succeeded him as bassist after leaving Poco.

Solo career

Randy Meisner brought out his first solo album Randy Meisner in 1978 and a second album One More Song in 1980 , which were average successes. He was also active as a studio musician for many rock stars, including James Taylor , Joe Walsh , Dan Fogelberg and Richard Marx .

In 1998, on the occasion of his entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he went on stage again with all current and former members of the Eagles to perform Take It Easy and Hotel California together .
