Richard Marx
Richard Noel Marx (born September 16, 1963 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American singer and songwriter .
Career
Richard Marx grew up in a very musical family - his father Dick Marx was a composer and vocal coach, his mother Ruth a singer.
Marx was discovered in the early 80s by Lionel Richie , for whom he subsequently worked as a background singer. In 1987 Richard Marx published his solo debut of the same name, which was particularly successful in the USA. In 1989 he made the final breakthrough with his ballad Right Here Waiting from his second album Repeat Offender . His third album Rush Street (1991) built on the success of the first two LPs and brought Marx to the height of his solo career.
In the following years he released four more records, including a best-of album, but he could no longer build on the successes of previous years. He withdrew from the public as much as possible and worked primarily as a songwriter for many well-known artists. He wrote texts for Kenny Loggins , Lara Fabian , 98 Degrees and 'N Sync, among others . In addition, during this time he was particularly committed to teaching art and music in schools and to a campaign against smoking.
It was only with his eighth solo album, My Own Best Enemy , that he made a highly regarded comeback in 2004. On this record, Marx worked with some well-known colleagues such as Fee Waybill , Michael Landau and Keith Urban . In addition, his single Ready To Fly became the unofficial anthem of the Four Hills Tournament 2005.
In total, Marx sold over 30 million records in his career. As a singer he had 19 TOP 20 hits, including seven number one hits, and wrote 13 more for other artists. In 2004 he and Luther Vandross won a Grammy Award for the song Dance With My Father as "Song of the year". In 2016 Richard Marx released his own version of the song.
Marx was married to actress Cynthia Rhodes from 1989 to 2014 and has three sons with her. Since December 23, 2015, Marx has been married to the actress Daisy Fuentes .
