The soft rock ballad was released on May 3, 1988 and became Marx's first number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 , while Def Leppard's Pour Some Sugar on Me was also at number 2. In Great Britain the song was also released as a double release with the song Endless Summer Nights and a live version of the song can be found on Marx's 2012 concert DVD A Night Out with Friends .

The song could be heard in the episode The Lawmen of Family Guy and in the episode Fateful Coconut Cookies / All Under One Roof / True Dog Beauty Comes from Within / In good times and bad of Life in Pieces , Richard Marx sang Richard Marx him personally.
