Kenny loggins
Kenneth Clark "Kenny" Loggins (born January 7, 1948 in Everett , Washington ) is an American singer , guitarist and songwriter . The two-time Grammy award winner was first known as one half of the duo Loggins and Messina in the 1970s , before he celebrated great success as a soloist from 1977 on, above all with a series of hits for movies. Including the Oscar-nominated theme song for the dance film Footloose , which was number one on the US charts for three weeks in 1984 .
Life
Kenny Loggins was born in Everett , Washington , and grew up the youngest of three brothers. Because of the father's job, the family moved several times, from Washington to Detroit and back and finally to Alhambra , a suburb of Los Angeles . Loggins attended the Catholic San Gabriel Mission High School located near the Alhambra , where he found his talents primarily in sports and music. He learned the basics of singing from his middle brother Dan and later learned to play the guitar. In high school , he starred in many school performances as well as organized talent shows.
Kenny Loggins is twice divorced and has three children from her first marriage and two children from her second marriage.
Career
Loggins began his musical career in the early 1970s. Together with singer and songwriter Jim Messina , who originally wanted to support Loggins as a solo artist, he performed as a duo called Loggins and Messina until 1976 . Her albums received two gold and five platinum awards in the United States and other awards in many other countries around the world. Best known hits together were Danny's Song and Your Mama Don't Dance .
In 1977 Loggins released his first solo album, Celebrate Me Home, with his first big hit, I Believe in Love . A year later, Nightwatch appeared , on which he sang a duet with Stevie Nicks , the singer of Fleetwood Mac , the top 10 hit Whenever I Call You "Friend" . The 1979 album Keep the Fire was also very successful due to the hits This Is It , a duet with Michael McDonald , the singer of the Doobie Brothers at the time , and the title track. All three albums went platinum in the US and a few other countries. Following the Keep-the-Fire tour, Loggins' first live record, Kenny Loggins Alive, was released . In 1980 he also won a Grammy for Best Song , What a Fool Believes, produced with Michael McDonald .
In the 1980s, Loggins attracted attention mainly through several soundtracks for movies. In 1980 he contributed the song I'm Alright to Madness Without Handicap ( Caddyshack ) . Footloose , for which Loggins received an Oscar nomination, became his biggest hit and made him known worldwide. Meet Me Halfway from Over the Top became as popular as Danger Zone and Playing with the Boys from Top Gun . In 1982, Welcome to Heartlight was one of his most famous titles. In 1985, as a member of USA for Africa, he was involved in the creation of the single We Are the World .
The albums released during this time were always overshadowed by the soundtracks he produced, which is why he concentrated more on working on his own albums at the beginning of the 1990s. Leap of Faith from 1991 was best known for the song Conviction of the Heart , which the then American Vice President Al Gore called the "unofficial anthem of the environmental movement". In 1995 Loggins performed on the National Mall in Washington DC, playing live in front of more than 500,000 people.
In 1994 Loggins released the album Return to Pooh Corner , which included the single House at Pooh Corner , a new edition of his 1969 hit. For this album, he was nominated for a Grammy in the category Best Children's Album . His song Forever also became an internationally acclaimed piece, which was later even translated into several languages. He also wrote new songs for his greatest hits album Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow (1997), including For the First Time , which was used for the film Days Like This ... and which brought Loggins another Oscar nomination. In the same year he also published the album Unimaginable Life and a book of the same name in which he and his wife talk about their life together. In 2000 Loggins' second children's album, More Songs from Pooh Corner , came out. Another best-of album ( The Essential ) followed two years later, and in 2003 the studio album It's About Time .
In the summer of 2005, after 30 years, Loggins & Messina were on stage again . The reunion tour through 44 US cities was sold out and a great success. A DVD and a CD, recorded at a concert in Loggins' hometown Santa Barbara, reflect the joy of playing of the two musicians again.
In 2007 his last studio album, How About Now , was released under the independent label 180 Music / Target . In addition to the uptempo title track, it also contains a newly recorded solo version of the Loggin & Messina hit A Love Song . Another highlight is the song I'll Remember Your Name , co-written and co-produced by Richard Marx , which is also the recognition song for the Foundation for Music and Schools founded by Marx on behalf of his father. Based on the father-son relationship described in the song, Loggins is also supported by his son Crosby with the background vocals .
Loggins is one of the main characters in the ten-part video series Yacht Rock , which revolves around Smooth Rock from the 1980s by artists such as B. Toto , Hall & Oates , Steely Dan , Michael Jackson , Michael McDonald turns.
In 2010 he founded the country trio Blue Sky Riders with songwriters Gary Burr and Georgia Middleman .
