Footloose is the soundtrack album for the 1984 film of the same name . The album went platinum nine times in the United States .

background

Copywriter and screenwriter Dean Pitchford and composer and arranger Michael Gore , who co-wrote the score for Fame in 1980 and won an Oscar for the title track , also collaborated on the soundtrack for Footloose . They were supported by Tom Snow ( Let's Hear It for the Boy and Somebody's Eyes ), Eric Carmen ( Almost Paradise ), Jim Steinman ( Holding Out for a Hero ), Sammy Hagar , Bill Wolfer ( Dancing in the Sheets ) and Kenny Loggins.

The album was mastered by Wally Traugott at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles . In 1998 a remastered version of the album was released on the occasion of the musical of the same name, which was first performed at the time , containing four more songs.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic says in his review: “Not only does it function as a time capsule of a certain moment in pop music history, but many of the songs are catchy enough to transcend their production.” (It doesn't just have the function a time capsule for a specific moment in pop history, but many of the songs are catchy enough to overcome their production.)

The album topped the Billboard 200 for ten weeks and also reached the top of the album hit parades in other countries. Two titles from the album were nominated for the Academy Award in 1985 in the category of best film song . The album sold over ten million times worldwide.
