Quiet Riot ( "Quiet riot") is an American heavy metal - band from Los Angeles , California , which celebrated its greatest success in the 1980s. They were the first band in the USA to top the Billboard 200 album charts with a heavy metal album .

history

Quiet Riot was founded in 1975 by guitarist Randy Rhoads and singer Kevin DuBrow . The original cast also included Kelli Garni and drummer Drew Forsyth. Status quo guitarist Rick Parfitt gave them the name Quiet Riot .

CBS Records Japan signed the band in the late 1970s and released two albums: Quiet Riot (1978) and Quiet Riot II (1979, with new bassist Rudy Sarzo , who was pictured but not heard). The band broke up when the later Slaughter bassist Dana Strum introduced guitarist Randy Rhoads to Ozzy Osbourne . Bassist Rudy Sarzo followed him. Rhoads was frustrated that his band failed to get a record deal for the United States. Randy Rhoads played two albums with Osbourne until 1982, before he was tragically killed in a plane crash on March 19, 1982.

After the early end of Quiet Riot, Kevin DuBrow formed a new band called Dubrow, which was renamed Quiet Riot after the death of Randy Rhoads. Sarzo returned to Quiet Riot and together with new guitarist Carlos Cavazo and drummer Frankie Banali they recorded the album Metal Health . The single Cum On Feel the Noize - a cover of the band Slade - reached the top 5 of the American single charts and became a million seller. The long player album Metal Health landed at number 1 on the Billboard charts and has since been the first heavy metal album to reach number 1 in the US. It sells over six million times.

The following album, Condition Critical , could not maintain this success and only made it to number 15, but was also a million seller. Although DuBrow announced to the press after the success of Cum On Feel the Noize that the band would not record another Slade cover, another one with Mama Weer All Crazee Now found its place on the 1984 album. Left in 1985 Rudy Sarzo Quiet Riot again. Chuck Wright, who was part of the line-up earlier, joined the band for him.

The album QR III was released in 1986 and climbed to number 31 on the American charts. At the beginning of 1987 DuBrow left the band surprisingly due to personal differences with the other band musicians. The remaining musicians signed the Rough-Cutt singer Paul Shortino as a replacement . Rudy Sarzo came back to the band for Chuck Wright who had dropped out, but left Quiet Riot while recording the next album and switched to Whitesnake . Sean McNabb took over his bass playing. The album, released in 1988, bears the simple title Quiet Riot - like the debut . The record flopped and the band broke up. Shortino and McNabb founded Badd Boyz and Frankie Banali joined WASP .

DuBrow formed the band in 1993 with guitarist Carlos Cavazo, drummer Frankie Banali and the new bassist Kenny Hillery and recorded the album Terrified . The album could not build on previous successes, but Quiet Riot released another album under the title Down to the Bone the following year . The returned Chuck Wright played bass on it. The classic Quiet Riot line-up - DuBrow, Cavazo, Sarzo, Banali - reunited in Los Angeles in May 1997 and played a few shows. In 1999 the comeback album Alive and Well followed , which contains new songs, some newly recorded band classics and the AC / DC cover Highway to Hell .

Another album was released in 2001 and is entitled Guilty Pleasures . Due to an injury to singer DuBrow, Paul Shortino (ex- Rough Cutt ; band) played the 2002 tour as a singer. In December 2005 guitarist Tracii Guns (previously LA Guns / Contraband / Dio (band) / Brides of Destruction ) joined the band to tackle a new album. But already in January the two parties separated again due to musical differences. The band hired Neil Citron as a studio guitarist and intended to go on a concert tour with Billy Morris (ex- Warrant ). A new studio album was announced for 2006, which should include a duet by DuBrow with singer Glenn Hughes . The band hired musician Tony Franklin (ex- Whitesnake / The Firm) as bass player . But already in June bassist Chuck Wright ( Giuffria , House of Lords ) and guitarist Alex Grossi joined the band again.

On November 25, 2007, Kevin DuBrow was found dead in his Las Vegas home . According to the autopsy report, the cause of death was an accidental cocaine overdose, death occurring approximately six days before the body was found.

On January 14, 2008 Frankie Banali announced on his homepage that he had no interest in continuing Quiet Riot in any form without Kevin DuBrow. Nevertheless, Quiet Riot returned in September 2010, the new line-up consisted of Frankie Banali as drummer, Chuck Wright as bassist and Alex Grossi on guitar. Mark Huff was hired as the new singer.

Huff, in turn, was fired for no reason in January 2012 while preparing for brain surgery. He didn't learn this from the band itself, but from an official statement. Keith St John ( Montrose ) took his place for the upcoming concert engagements . In March 2012 Frankie Banali engaged the unknown singer Scott Vokoun for the band. In 2013 Vokun was released again and replaced by Jizzy Pearl (inter alia Love / Hate ).
