Carlos Cavazo (born July 8, 1957 in Mexico City ) is an American musician and guitarist. He was a member of the US heavy metal band Quiet Riot from the early 1980s until 2001 and has been a member of the hard rock band Ratt since 2008 .
Life
The guitarist founded his first band “Speed of Light” together with his brother Antonio Cavazo in Mexico City. They later moved to Los Angeles together, where they formed the band "Snow" with drummer Stephen Quadros and singer Doug Ellison, which performed regularly at Whiskey a Go Go and the Starwood Club . The group released an album.
Carlos Cavazo gained international fame as the guitarist of Quiet Riot in 1982 . With this group he released eight albums, which included the band's greatest success, Metal Health . This record reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 in 1983 and has sold over six million times to date. Metal Health is considered the first heavy metal album to reach the top of the American album charts. Cavazo was involved in the songwriting of five of the ten songs on the album.
During his time at Quiet Riot in 1985 Cavazo and the rest of the band were part of the Hear 'n Aid project initiated by Ronnie James Dio , Vinny Appice and Vivian Campbell . Cavazo played together with George Lynch the fifth guitar solo of the song Stars recorded for the project and took part in the choir singing for the chorus of the title sung by all musicians involved.
Cavazo left Quiet Riot in 2001 and became a member of the supergroup 3 Legged Dog . This group included drummer Vinny Appice ( Black Sabbath , Dio ), bassist Jimmy Bain (Dio, Kate Bush ), singer Chas West ( Lynch Mob , Bonham) and guitarist Brian Young. The group only released one album, but with which they could not record any commercial success.
In 2008 Cavazo replaced John Corabi as guitarist with the group Ratt, with whom he released the album Infestation in 2010 .
