history

Shortino took singing lessons as a child and gained his first experience as a singer in various local bands on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles , where he also met Wendy and Ronnie James Dio . Through her mediation he got in contact with the band Rough Cutt, whose first demos Used and Abused and A Little Kindness Dio produced. Shortino recorded two albums with the band: Rough Cutt, and Wants You!

He also wrote songs for the TV series Fame and played the role of Duke Fame in This Is Spinal Tap . In 1985 he took part as lead singer for the title Stars in the Hear 'n Aid project initiated by Ronnie James Dio . When he got the offer in 1987 to replace Kevin DuBrow with the well-known band Quiet Riot , he left Rough Cutt and recorded the commercially unsuccessful album Quiet Riot with Quiet Riot in 1988 .

In the early 1990s, Shortino started a solo career and teamed up with guitarist Jeff Northrup. With him he released Back on Track in 1993 under the name Paul Shortino / JK Northrup , which was followed in 1994 by the live album Booked, Toured, ... Released , but which was released under the name Shortino. The singer recorded other albums, some under his own name ( Stand or Fall, 1999), with Paul Shortino's The Cutt ( Sacred Place, 2003) or in collaboration with Jeff Northrup ( Afterlife, 2004).

When drummer Carmine Appice revitalized his band King Kobra in 2010, he offered Shortino the post of lead singer. The group has since released two studio albums ( King Kobra, 2011 and II, 2013).
