history
In the 1920s , the first nightclubs and casinos emerged along the Sunset Strip because it was outside the city and under the jurisdiction of Los Angeles County and the city's stricter regulations did not apply. The term "glitz and glamor" was used to describe the Sunset Strip in the 1930s and 1940s , when restaurants and clubs became the meeting place for wealthy Los Angeles residents. Many celebrities danced in the clubs like Ciro's, The Mocambo and The Trocadero. It is said that some of the Sunset Strip nightclubs have been bought up by gangsters like Mickey Cohen .
In the early 1960s , the Sunset Strip's importance to the entertainment industry declined, but many restaurants and clubs became tourist attractions . In the mid-1960s, the Sunset Strip became a center of counterculture . In 1969 hippies were often persecuted by the police . Such scenes played out until the early 1970s . The band Buffalo Springfield processed this scenario in their song For What It's Worth .
In the mid-1970s, the Sunset Strip became a meeting place for American musicians and bands. At that time, the Sunset Strip also became relevant to punk music and new wave music . In the late 1970s, the Sunset Strip became a metropolitan area of Glam Metal . The glam metal scene dissolved again during the 1980s due to higher rental prices . In 1984 West Hollywood became an independent city and was given responsibility for the Strip by the county government . Since the 1990s , the Sunset Strip has been a metropolitan area for rock bands that are not sponsored by the music industry.
