Sunset Boulevard (Los Angeles)
The Sunset Boulevard ( ) is a street in Los Angeles . It leads from Downtown Los Angeles through the districts Echo Park , Silver Lake , Los Feliz and Hollywood , the two independent cities West Hollywood and Beverly Hills and then again through the Los Angeles districts Westwood and Brentwood to Pacific Palisades , where he is in the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) empties. The boulevard is about 35 km long and is considered the most famous street in the city.
The road has at least four lanes along its entire length and is very busy; the planned construction of relieving highway Beverly Hills Freeway never took place. A part of the boulevard to the east of Interstate 110 was built in honor of the trade unionist Cesar Chavez in Cesar Chavez Avenue renamed.
Sunset Strip
The part of the boulevard that is in West Hollywood (WeHo), between Hollywood and Beverly Hills, is called the Sunset Strip . Some of the most famous clubs in the Los Angeles area are located here, including the legendary Whiskey a Go Go (No. 8901), where rock greats such as Alice Cooper , The Doors , The Who and Led Zeppelin performed. During the day, the Sunset Strip is a popular shopping street with designer boutiques and restaurants.
Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills
At the transition from WeHo to Beverly Hills, the character of the street changes suddenly. Instead of huge billboards, banks, motels, and shops, Sunset Blvd. suddenly accompanied by well-tended lawns, flowering bushes and stately trees. The estates of wealthy citizens border directly on the street and give the boulevard the character as if it led through a park landscape. This is also where the Beverly Hills Hotel (No. 9641) known as the "Pink Palace" is located, owned by Hassanal Bolkiah , the Sultan of Brunei, and considered one of the best hotels in the world. The eccentric millionaire Howard Hughes lived in a secluded life in one of the hotel's bungalows for a while. Marilyn Monroe was just as much a guest here as President John F. Kennedy or the Beatles . Elizabeth Taylor honeymooned at the Beverly Hills Hotel with six of her eight husbands.
A few miles to the west, Sunset Boulevard in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles borders the extensive grounds of the University of California (UCLA).
Some film studios, such as the FOX Studios , Nickelodeon Studios and those of the TV station KTLA (formerly a site of the Warner Bros. Studio ), are located on Sunset Boulevard. From 1975 to 1981, Neil Bogart's record company Casablanca Records was based here.
