Pacific Palisades [pəˈsifik ˈpæliseidz] is a district in the west of the US city ​​of Los Angeles , California .

history

The origin of the place is the Inceville film studio. It operated from 1911 to 1922. The area was then bought by a community of the so-called Chautauqua movement , who cultivated it and laid out roads and building sites. In 1926, 250 families were already living in the area. In 1927, real estate agent and real estate entrepreneur Frank Meline acquired parts of the land and, along with others, developed it into the California Riviera .

Pacific Palisades is located between Brentwood , Malibu , Santa Monica and the Santa Monica Mountains . Pacific Palisades currently has about 27,000 residents. The district is very affluent and predominantly a residential area with a mixture of large properties and small, sometimes older houses, condominiums and apartments.

There is a small central business district on Sunset Boulevard consisting of restaurants, shops, banks, and offices. This part of Pacific Palisades is also known as "The Village". There are also extensive parks. The neighborhood Palisades Charter High School is made famous by numerous films including the Halloween franchise starring Jamie Lee Curtis .

Well-known German emigrants, such as Thomas Mann and Theodor W. Adorno , found refuge in Pacific Palisades during the National Socialist era . Lion Feuchtwanger lived with his wife in the " Villa Aurora " on Paseo Miramar, which is now used as a residence for artists whose main work and life is in Germany. In June 2018, the Mann family's former home was inaugurated as a German cultural center. In the 1940s, besides Thomas and Katia Mann , who lived in the neighborhood, Bertolt Brecht was often a guest at the Feuchtwangers. Brecht was living in the neighboring Rustic Canyon at the time. Opposite the junction of Paseo Miramar from Sunset Boulevard is the park of the Indian yogi and guru Paramahansa Yogananda .

In the district are the Entenza and Eames House , both important buildings of modern architecture, as well as the Getty Villa , a replica of the Villa dei Papiri .

Many of the film industry personalities live in Pacific Palisades.
