List of neighborhoods of Los Angeles

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The metropolis of Los Angeles, with its four million inhabitants in the actual urban area alone, has numerous districts, which reflect the multicultural character of the city in their cultural, social and ethnic diversity. The writer Dorothy Parker once described Los Angeles as "72 suburbs in search of a city". With the exception of Hollywood , the various districts and their boundaries have not yet been officially defined. Nonetheless, on February 19, 2009 , the Los Angeles Times published an unofficial map of the individual districts that it had developed over a period of more than three years.

Apart from Downtown Los Angeles , where the city's origins are, Bunker Hill , which has long been counted as downtown, and Angelino Heights are the oldest suburbs of Los Angeles. The youngest district is Playa Vista, developed on the drawing board by real estate companies from 2001 onwards, in the west of Los Angeles, north of Los Angeles International Airport .

For purely statistical purposes, the city is also divided into seven areas by the Area Planning Commissions . These are in turn divided into 36 community plan areas , which are listed in the following table. The population figures in the table are based on the Census based on 1 April 2000th
