House of Lords is an American melodic rock - band in 1988 from the group Giuffria emerged.

history

Giuffria, who had already released two albums, signed a contract with Simmons Records in 1988 , the then newly founded label of Kiss bassist Gene Simmons . Simmons changed the band name to House of Lords and replaced singer David Glen Eisley with James Christian . Simmons liked the demos Gregg Giuffria had sent him for Giuffria's third album, but he didn't like the singer's voice. Bassist Chuck Wright then suggested James Christian, with whom he had played in the group LA Rocks. Eisley then became a singer with the group Dirty White Boy.

The self-titled debut album was produced by Andy Johns and Gregg Giuffria and released in 1988, with Simmons serving as executive producer . Sales in Europe were taken over by BMG Ariola . For the backing vocals, the singer Jeff Scott Soto was hired. Compared to Giuffria's first two albums, the sound had become heavier, the keyboards faded into the background. The album was critically acclaimed, and House of Lords toured the United States in 1989 as support for Cheap Trick and later for The Scorpions . The group had a hit titled I Wanna Be Loved , which peaked at number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100 . The second single, Love Don't Lie , written by Stan Bush , was released, but it had no notable success. In 1990 guitarist Lanny Cordola left the group and was replaced by Michael Guy.

The group's next album, which had been recorded with many guest musicians, was titled Sahara . It was released in 1990 and was again produced by Andy Johns, but this time in collaboration with the whole group. Again, Simmons was executive producer. Other guitarists were mainly involved in the recordings: Doug Aldrich , Rick Nielsen (Cheap Trick), Chris Impellitteri and Mandy Meyer; Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), Mike Tramp , Steve Plunkett, Ron Keel ( Keel ) and ex-Giuffria singer David Glenn Eisley supported the background vocals . The first single was the Blind Faith cover Can't Find My Way Home ; the second single, Remember My Name , reached number 72 on the Hot 100. Shortly after that success, Chuck Wright and Ken Mary left the group.

In 1992 the group had changed record labels and signed to Victory Music, Inc., with distribution through PolyGram . Victory released Demons Down , which James Christian calls his favorite album to this day, and was produced by David Thoener and House of Lords. Dennis Chick (guitar), Sean McNabb (bass) and Tommy Aldridge (drums) played on this record ; the two remaining original members were now keyboardist Gregg Giuffria and singer James Christian. In addition, there were again prominent musicians who supported the recording: Paul Stanley sang in the background of the song Johnny's got a Mind of his own , Fiona also sang background vocals, Tim Pierce and Danny Jacobs acted as supplementary guitarists, and David Glen Eisley was back again. Demons Down and the ballad What’s Forever For were released as singles . After the group had recorded a few more demos to find a new contract and a new label, they split.

Ten years later, the group got back together with the original line-up and gave a few concerts in the USA . House of Lords took on new demos and tried to get a new contract, which initially came about with Dead Line Music. The band recorded the album The Power and the Myth , but by the time it was released in 2004 Gregg Giuffria had already quit and the keyboards had been played by various session musicians. All members except James Christian left the group over the next two years. James Christian hadn't been involved in the songwriting and, by his own admission, didn't agree with the direction the project was taking. He wanted to continue House of Lords in the tradition of the sound of Demons Down , while the other members (Chuck Wright and Lenny Cordola) preferred a more modern, alternative sound, so the separation made sense.

In 2006, however, Christian managed to win a new team for the House of Lords project. The singer was now the owner of all rights to House of Lords, which he had acquired from Gregg Giuffria. The next album was recorded with a completely new line-up: World Upside Down . It was released in 2006 by Frontiers Records , an Italian label that has made a name for itself primarily by engaging well-known melodic rock artists. A live album entitled Live in the UK was released on the same label in 2007 , but it was only released in Europe.

In 2008 the group released the album Come to My Kingdom , followed in 2009 by Cartesian Dreams , which was recorded with the cast of James Christian, Jimi Bell, BJ Zampa and Chris McCarvill. Additional guitar work came from Tommy Denander . In 2011 the album Big Money was released. The band was also on tour regularly, including in Germany in 2007, 2009 and 2012.
