Simmons Records is an American music label that initially existed until 1990 and was re-established in 2004. It was originally founded in 1988 by Gene Simmons , bassist for the Kiss group .

history

1988-1990

Simmons founded the label in 1988. As a logo, he chose a money bag with a dollar sign printed on it, which he, like the name of his company, had trademarked on May 27, 1988.

As the first group on his label, he hired the band Giuffria , who were looking for a new record company, dismissed their singer David Glen Eisley and gave the band a new name: House of Lords . He won the RCA label for distribution in the USA , and BMG Ariola products in Europe . In 1989, House of Lords' self-titled debut album reached number 71 on the Billboard 200 .

In 1989 the group Silent Rage was engaged, whose debut album Don't Touch me There was released in the same year. A year later the label released the album Prey by the band Gypsy Rose, also in 1990 Sahara , the second album by House of Lords, was released, which still reached number 121 on the Billboard 200. Then the label disappeared from the scene.

From 2003

Simmons had his name and trademark rights renewed regularly so that he could not lose them. On September 30, 2002 he also registered the trademark "Simmons Audio-Video". In 2003, the audio book Sex Money Kiss , authored by Gene Simmons, was published under this brand . New Millennium Audio acted as distribution .

Simmons revived his record label in 2004 when he partnered with Sanctuary Records to release his solo album Asshole . He also published the DVD Speaking in Tongues in this way . In 2005 the artist " Bag " released his debut album on Simmons Records, but the hoped-for success did not materialize. The song I am Indy , the motto of the Indy Racing League of 2006 , was created with Bag .

In 2008 the label partnered with Universal Music Canada to find young rock bands that could do well in both Canada and the United States. The declared goal was to find and draw at least three Canadian artists each year.

As the winner of a long-term casting , The Envy emerged, which received a recording contract with Simmons Records and then toured Canada in support of Kiss. In 2010 The Envy released the EP Don't Let Go , which contained three songs.
