Kobra and the Lotus is a Canadian heavy metal band formed in Calgary in 2008 .
history
Kobra and the Lotus was founded in 2009 by the namesake Kobra Paige and the musicians Chris Swenson, Matt van Wezel (both guitar), Ben Freud (electric bass | bass) and Griffin Kissack (drums). Paige has a classical vocal training. Recordings for their debut album, Out of the Pit, began in 2009 and the album was released the following year. After a tour that took them through their home country Canada in 2010, the group split up with Matt van Wezel and Ben Freud, who were replaced in 2011 by Peter Dimov (bass) and Tim Brown (guitar). With them, the group embarked on their first European tour.
The band originally began work on their second album between February and April 2011 with music producer Julius Butty and then traveled to Europe for a tour of the UK . The group's manager, Susan Bullen, had made contact with various record companies and played demos of some of the pre-produced songs to a manager of the Universal Music Group , Mark Spicoluk . Spicoluk assumed that Gene Simmons might be interested in signing the group for his label Simmons Records , and recommended the band to him. During the week, Simmons reached out to cops and made it clear that he was interested in a signing.
After signing, the band returned to the studio in January and February 2012 to record four additional tracks under the guidance of Kevin Churko. Churko also revised the previously recorded titles. The album, Kobra and the Lotus , was released on August 6, 2012.
In 2013 the group went back to the studio to record their third album. The publication was initially planned for January 2014. This date turned out to be too early, so the release of the album was postponed to June 27, 2014.
