Karla Bonoff (born December 27, 1951 in Santa Monica , California ) is an American singer-songwriter .

Songwriting

Karla Bonoff has written Home for Bonnie Raitt , Tell Me Why for Wynonna Judd and Isn't It Always Love for Lynn Anderson , among others . Linda Ronstadt has recorded several of her songs, including Someone to Lay Down Beside Me , Trouble Again , All My Life and Falling Star . Stylistically, Bonoff is mainly assigned to West Coast music or folk rock . Her main instruments are the piano and the acoustic guitar .

Bonoff had made a name for herself not only as a writer, but also as a background singer for Ronstadt before she recorded her first album, Karla Bonoff, in 1977 . It made it into the top 100 in the US charts as well as the single I Can't Hold On . Her two following albums Restless Nights (1979) and Wild Heart of the Young (1982) reached top 50 placements; With the single Personally , she briefly occupied position 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982 . After the less successful album New World (1988), she took a longer studio break and concentrated more on writing songs. In September 2007 a new own production appeared for the first time with a live album.

Member of Bryndle

Karla Bonoff was temporarily a member of the Bryndle group , which included Wendy Waldman, Kenny Edwards and, until 1996, Andrew Gold . After a first phase of collaboration in the 1970s (all three other musicians were involved in Bonoff's first albums alongside Linda Ronstadt), this group was mainly active in the mid-1990s.
