Don Henley
Donald Hugh "Don" Henley (born July 22, 1947 in Gilmer , Texas ) is an American rock musician who was best known as a drummer and together with Glenn Frey as a band leader and singer of the country rock band Eagles . Nonetheless, he has had a very successful solo career since the early 1980s. As a member of the Eagles and as a soloist, he received a total of eight Grammy Awards . He has been a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Eagles since 1998, and has also been a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame since 2000 .
Henley, who plays guitar and keyboards in addition to the drums , is considered a perfectionist, which is clearly reflected in the more than 45 years of his musical career. In addition, his distinctive and Grammys-winning singing voice made him an unmistakable and integral part of the international music industry.
Life
1970 Henley moved from Linden ( Texas ) to Los Angeles to record an album with his band Shiloh take. In Los Angeles he met Glenn Frey . Both became members of Linda Ronstadt's backing band and founded the Eagles in 1971 . Her first album came out in 1972 and contained the hit Take it easy . Henley has co-written most of the Eagles' popular songs, including Desperado and Hotel California . The band split up in 1981 after deep disagreements.
After the Eagles broke up, Henley started a successful solo career, including a number of guest appearances with well-known colleagues, including Stevie Nicks , with whom he was dating at the time. His first solo album was released in the summer of 1982 and was called I Can't Stand Still . It sold poorly, but in the fall of 1984 it was followed by Building the Perfect Beast , which now contained synthesizer sounds and moved a little away from the country rock sound of the Eagles. The single The Boys of Summer , a composition by Mike Campbell , to which Henley wrote the lyrics, reached the fifth place on the Hot 100 of Billboard magazine.
Henley's next album wasn't released until mid-1989 and was titled The End of the Innocence . It was just as successful as its predecessor. There followed a long time without a new production, as Henley had fallen out with his record company and helped reunite the Eagles.
In the fall of 1995 the greatest hits album Actual Miles: Henley's Greatest Hits , which contained two new songs and a bonus track, was released. In spring 2000 a new solo album was finally released: Inside Job . Since then the musical work with the Eagles has been in the foreground again. After the Eagles tour in 2009, Henley went on a solo tour through the USA and Canada .
After a break of 15 years, Henley released a solo album called Cass County in the fall of 2015 , most of which was recorded in Texas and Tennessee. The Rolling Stone listed Henley on rank 87 of the 100 best singers and together with Glenn Frey on rank 49 of the 100 best songwriters of all time .
Private
Henley is committed to protecting the environment. He founded the non-profit organization Caddo Lake Institute to promote environmental education and research in the 1990s. The Caddo Lake Institute, as part of the Caddo Lake Coalition, helps protect the Texas wetlands , where Henley spent much of his childhood. He also initiated the Walden Woods Project, which aims to preserve the historical cultural landscape in Concord in connection with the literary work of Henry David Thoreau .
The musician lives on a farm in Malibu and Dallas. In 1995 he married Sharon Summerall, a former model from Texas. Colleagues including Bruce Springsteen , Sting , Billy Joel , John Fogerty , Jackson Browne , Donna Lewis , Sheryl Crow , Glenn Frey and Tony Bennett were invited to the wedding on his farm in Malibu . Henley and his wife, who has multiple sclerosis , have three children, two daughters and a son. Henley addresses his wife's illness in the song Everything Is Different Now on the album Inside Job .
