John Fogerty
John Cameron Fogerty (born May 28, 1945 in Berkeley , California ) is an American singer, songwriter and rock guitarist .
biography
Career
John Fogerty was the front man and lead guitarist of the rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), which emerged from the band The Blue Velvets , which he and his school friend Doug Clifford founded in 1959 - later renamed The Golliwogs by the record company . Other members under all three band names were Stu Cook and John Fogerty's older brother Tom , who played the rhythm guitar and was also the singer of the formation in the early days. But in 1967, with the last recordings under the name The Golliwogs , John replaced his brother as the band's singer. Between 1969 and 1972, Creedence Clearwater Revival had nine top ten singles including Fortunate Son , Proud Mary and Bad Moon Rising .
After his time at Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fogerty began a solo career. In 1973 his album Blue Ridge Rangers appeared , on which he played all instruments. Some of the songs were gospel songs like Have Thine Own Way, Lord or Working on a Building . Two singles from this album, Jambalaya (On the Bayou) and Hearts of Stone , made it into the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 . Another single from Blue Ridge Rangers - You Don't Owe Me / Back in the Hills - was released in the fall of 1973, but went largely unnoticed.
The first single to be released under his name was Comin 'Down the Road , which was not included on any regular album. It reached number 37 in the German single charts at the beginning of 1974. The album John Fogerty came out in 1975, with rather moderate success. On it are the songs Rockin 'All Over the World and Almost Saturday Night .
The next few years were less characterized by musical publications, but more by a legal dispute with the Fantasy Records label and Saul Zaentz , who did not want to release John Fogerty from the record deal, who had a gag character. This paralyzed the musician's creativity. John Fogerty later retaliated with clearly ambiguous songs like Mr. Greed and Zanz Can't Danz , which eventually had to be renamed Vanz Can't Danz after further legal disputes .
In the mid-eighties, John Fogerty made a comeback. The album Centerfield with hits The Old Man Down the Road and Rock and Roll Girls came in 1985 at number 1 on the Billboard pop album charts . Fogerty also recorded this album as a one man band . In 1986, The Eye of the Zombie was far less successful. In 1997 the album Blue Moon Swamp was released and in 1998 the live album Premonition , which contains many old CCR songs as well as his greatest solo hits.
As a border crosser, Fogerty repeatedly recorded tracks in the country sound, which ran on CMT , among others (e.g. the country rock song Southern Streamline or the entire album "The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again" 2009). In 2004 the album Deja Vu (All Over Again) was released; the title track is a protest song against the Iraq war. In addition to other typical Fogerty numbers, the album also contains a duet with Mark Knopfler . During this time, Fogerty's political views became clear, as he took part in the 2004 organized by Bruce Springsteen Vote for Change Tour , the aim of which was to support John Kerry in his presidential campaign. During the tour Fogerty made his appearance without his own band. Rather, he played with Springsteen's E Street Band , for example the title track of the then new CD, but also older songs such as Centerfield or the Travellin Band .
At the end of 2005, the best-of album The Long Road Home was released after John Fogerty had come to an agreement again after 30 years with the label Fantasy, which was now under new management. The album contained an outline of the complete works of Fogerty from the time with Creedence Clearwater Revival and his solo records, also four live recordings, but no new songs. A concert DVD with the same title was released in June 2006, which was recorded in September 2005 at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles.
In October 2007, Fogerty's first studio album was released in three years with Revival . As part of his revival tour in 2008 , a concert was recorded during the concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London on June 24th, which was released on DVD on December 11th, 2009 under the name Comin 'Down the Road .
John Fogerty tours Europe almost every year. In addition to Fogerty himself (vocals / guitar / harmonica), his band consists of James Intvelt (guitar), Hunter Perrin (guitar), David Santos (bass), Kenny Aronoff (drums), Michael Webb (keyboard / guitar) and Jason Mowery (fiddle) /Guitar).
Role as a songwriter
Proud Mary was covered by Ike and Tina Turner and is one of their biggest hits. Elvis Presley first recorded the song in his live repertoire in early 1970 and had it in his program until the mid-1970s. Giorgio Moroder launched a bubblegum version shortly after it was published .
Rockin 'All Over the World was recorded by Status Quo and in this version is far better known than the original. The American rock band Bon Jovi also plays this song regularly as part of their live concerts.
Almost Saturday Night was released as a single by Dave Edmunds .
Have You Ever Seen the Rain brought Bonnie Tyler into the charts, and British singer Rod Stewart and the Spin Doctors also celebrated success with the song. The Ramones also covered the song on their album Acid Eaters .
American country singer Emmylou Harris recorded a version of Bad Moon Rising for her album Evangeline in 1981 . The grunge band Nirvana and the alternative country band 16 Horsepower often played their interpretations of the title live at concerts in the 1990s.
His song Lookin 'Out My Back Door was covered by the melodic death metal band Children of Bodom in their own style.
From Green River cover versions exist of Bill Wyman 's Rhythm Kings and the Australian Ian Moss ( Cold Chisel ), a lo-fi version of the US singer-songwriter M. Ward , and a live recording of the Swiss guitarist Hank Shizzoe .
Private
John Fogerty has been married to Julie Lebiedzinski for the second time since 1991, with whom he has four children. He dedicated the title Joy of My Life to his wife . He has three children from his first marriage to Martha Paiz. His sons Shane and Tyler often played as guests at concerts.
