Dave Edmunds
Dave Edmunds (born April 15, 1944 in Cardiff , Wales ) is a Welsh guitarist and singer .
Life
Dave Edmunds became known as the front man of the group Love Sculpture in the mid-1960s . The group played the blues , but also pieces by “classical” composers such as Aram Chatschaturjan's Saber Dance or Georges Bizet's Farandole. It was Shakin 'Stevens & the Sunsets' then manager Paul Barrett who introduced Edmunds to rock and roll . In 1969 he began recording solo records, on which he often played most of the instruments himself. He had great success with the new editions of well-known rock'n'roll pieces.
With I Hear You Knockin 'he landed a No. 1 hit in the British charts in 1970. More hits followed. With these pieces he imitated the sound of the 1950s and 1960s in the style of Phil Spector or the Everly Brothers . In 1974 he starred in the movie Stardust . In the late 1970s he played with bassist Nick Lowe von Brinsley Schwarz in the group Rockpile . Rockpile was mostly a live band. The musicians continued to record solo records. Even after the end of Rockpile in 1981, Dave Edmunds continued his solo career. For a while his records were produced by Jeff Lynne , which gave his sound a new twist. He later performed again with Nick Lowe. In 1980 Dave Edmunds discovered the Stray Cats in London and produced their first album (Stray Cats, 1981). He helped these three teenagers from Massapequa, Long Island, to their distinctive sound and is considered to be largely responsible for their success. In 1981 he then produced the debut album Polecats are Go! the neo-rockabilly band Polecats ( USA ). Dave Edmunds has also worked as a producer for other musicians and groups, including Shakin 'Stevens (1970 and 1985), Brinsley Schwarz and the comeback of the Everly Brothers.
On October 21, 1985 Edmunds was the musical director of the television special Blue Suede Shoes: A Rockabilly Session by Carl Perkins , where he appeared alongside artists such as Eric Clapton , Rosanne Cash and Ringo Starr .
Dave Edmunds has not made a major impact as a musician since the mid-1990s, but appears repeatedly at festivals in Great Britain and has been a special guest at a number of concerts - u. a. Carl Perkins ' 65th birthday in the mid-1990s.
