Rosanne Cash
Rosanne Cash (born May 24, 1955 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American country singer and songwriter. She is particularly successful in her home country, where she had eleven number 1 singles on the country chart in the 1980s .
life and career
Rosanne Cash is the oldest of the four daughters of country singer Johnny Cash and his first wife Vivian Liberto Cash Distin. After her parents divorced, she lived in California with her mother Vivian Liberto . After finishing school, she joined the Johnny Cash Road Show, where she worked as a background singer for three years.
In 1975 Rosanne Cash spent a year in London working in the office of Columbia Records , the record company her father signed. This was followed by a few semesters of acting studies at American universities and institutes. In 1978 she produced the album Rosanne Cash for Ariola in Munich . A year later she recorded the album Right or Wrong for Columbia. The producer was the singer / songwriter Rodney Crowell , whom she married a little later and who also produced her following albums.
While Right or Wrong was only average success including various single releases, Rosanne Cash reached her first career high point in 1981 with Seven Year Ache . The album was awarded a gold record and all three single releases made it to the top of the country charts. The songs, largely written by Rosanne Cash, became increasingly personal and autobiographical. This became particularly clear on the dark album Interiors , which she produced herself, with songs like On the Surface or Mirror Image , which was made shortly before the separation from her husband in 1990.
In October 1985, Cash was next to musicians such as Eric Clapton , Ringo Starr and George Harrison to guest with Carl Perkins , who recorded the television concert Blue Suede Shoes: A Rockabilly Session in London .
The next album, The Wheel, from 1993, has a distinctly autobiographical character, and Cash wrote the songs himself for this too. The pop-oriented The Wheel with its catchy melodies and arrangements seems more optimistic than its predecessor. Johnny Cash said: "If I should ever end up on a lonely island and I was only allowed to take one CD with me, I would choose Wheels ." Since 1995 she has been married to the American guitarist and producer John Leventhal. Rosanne Cash began writing in the mid-1990s and published a volume of short stories in 1996. During this time she temporarily lost her voice due to an illness and therefore had to interrupt work on the CD Rules of Travel , which did not go on sale until 2003.
In 2006, the album Black Cadillac was released , which she dedicated to her parents and stepmother June Carter Cash , all of whom had died since the release of their last CD. In sometimes melancholy songs, starting with the death of her father in the title track, she reviewed memories and scenes from her life, including her father's time as a military radio operator ( radio operator ), whose acquaintance with his first wife Vivian ( I Was Watching You ) and Johnny Cash's residence with his second wife June in Hendersonville ( House on the Lake ). The last track on the CD consists of 71 seconds of silence for her parents, who both died at the age of 71.
At the end of 2009 Cash released her twelfth studio album The List . According to her, it contains twelve tracks from a 100 track list of the most important country songs compiled by her father Johnny Cash in 1973. She received this list on her 18th birthday. The album contains only cover versions, including Bruce Springsteen , the Carter Family , Merle Haggard and Bob Dylan . Guest musicians include Rufus Wainwright , Jeff Tweedy , Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello .
Rosanne Cash prefers to play acoustic guitars made by Gibson and CF Martin .
