Hendersonville is the largest city in Sumner County in Tennessee , United States, and is located on the north side of Old Hickory Lake. According to the United States Census Bureau , the city had a population of 51,372 in 2010 and an area of 85.2 km 2 .
history
Around 1784 Daniel Smith laid the foundation stone for the foundation of Hendersonville with the establishment of Rock Castle; the home is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places . In 1790 William Henderson, after whom the city was named, settled here.
With the completion of the Old Hickory Dam in 1954, the city grew into one of the largest places in Sumner County . In 1969 Hendersonville received town charter; In 1972 the city already had 14,000 inhabitants. The two-volume book The City by the Lake: A History of Hendersonville , written by city residents Tim Takacs and Jamie Clary, details the founding and development of Hendersonville.
Risk of flooding
In 2007, it was announced that the Wolf Creek Dam in Kentucky could burst; the lower parts of the city of Hendersonville would likely be completely flooded in such a case. In the meantime, the dam has been repaired, its water level lowered and the pressure reduced so that the danger of flooding seems to have been averted.
