Wrestling career

Beginnings

Jeff Jarrett began his professional wrestling career as a referee in his father's wrestling league , the USWA . His debut as a wrestler followed in the same league in April 1986. At first he joined the tag team with Pat Tanaka, then he also tried his hand at individual wrestling. In 1986 Jarrett won the Mid-South Tag Team Champion title and the NWA Mid-America Champion title. In 1988 he started wrestling for the AWA and the WCCW at the same time. In the latter division Jeff had his first long-running feud against Eric Embry for the WCWA Light Heavyweight Champion title in the same year, which he held twice. Further title wins at this time were WCWA Tag Team championships with Kerry von Erich and winning the CWA title from Dutch Mantell.

Jarrett then fought again only for the USWA, since the AWA was dissolved in 1991 and the WCCW in 1990 was taken over by the USWA. In 1989 he won the USWA Tag Team title for the first time and held it 14 times more often than anyone before in the course of his career. The same applies to the USWA Southern Heavyweight title, which he was allowed to call his own ten times and which he won for the first time in 1990 from Dick Slater and the following year from Steve Austin, among others .

World Wrestling Federation (1992-1996)

Through good contacts Jeff Jarretts and Jerry Lawlers to Vince McMahon Jr. Jarrett was signed to the WWF in 1993 . But since Jarrett's capabilities were limited, he was first sent back to the USWA. At the end of 1993 he returned with country music gimmick. His appearance was chosen so that it should remind of the successful wrestler Ric Flair . Jeff Jarrett won his first title against Razor Ramon when he was able to win the WWF Intercontinental Champion title . He won this with the help of his new ring companion, the Road Dogg . With his help he was able to defend the title several times. After a controversial finish against Thurman Sparky Plugg (now Hardcore Holly) on April 19, 1995, the title was declared vacant. Jarrett got it back with a clear pin. A month later, he had to surrender his title to Razor Ramon at an event, but won it back three days later.

At In Your House II , Jeff demonstrated his singing skills and sang the song With my baby tonight live , for which Heel received a lot of applause. At the same event, Jarrett lost the Intercontinental Title to Shawn Michaels . After disputes between Jarrett and the WWF leadership, he left the WWF for some time and only returned briefly for a feud against Ahmed Johnson at the Royal Rumble in 1996. Since he was hardly used because of the differences with the league leadership, he let his contract expire (he used the break to heal a disc injury) and finally switched to World Championship Wrestling in the same year ; the WCW was at the beginning of its strongest phase and meanwhile formed serious competition for the WWF.

World Championship Wrestling (1996–1997)

In October 1996, Jarrett made his debut in World Championship Wrestling, but turned down offers from the New World Order and turned to the Four Horsemen , the stable of his idol Ric Flair . In his name he fought with the US champion Paul Wight at his first major event participation , but suffered defeats at "Halloween Havoc" and "World War III". Although he became a respected part of the squad and got diligent matches, his career stagnated here in Ted Turner's promotion at the level of an average wrestler. Only after he started again without a stable did the first title opportunities arise. In a nitro edition to Slamboree , he defeated US champion Dean Malenko to secure his title.

A feud ensued with Steve McMichael, whose ex-wife Debra was now Jarrett's manager. At "Clash of the Champions" 1997 Jarrett then lost his title to adversary McMichael.

In September 1997, however, Jarrett's WCW career was temporarily over. To improve his situation, he had disclosed details of his WCW salary slip to the public and thus incurred the anger of the WCW leadership. After a loss to Booker T at Nitro on September 29, 1997, he left the WCW.

Return to WWF (1997-1999)

Despite a tumultuous past, Jarrett returned to WWF and returned to the Federation screens at a RAW event in December.

As part of a renewed collaboration with the NWA , Jarrett tried as a leader together with manager Tennessee Lee (Col. Robert Parker) on an invasion of the same in the WWF and thereby copied passages of the New World Order Angle from 1996. Since this storyline was unsuccessful Jeff Jarrett returned to his country music outfit. In the following years its importance within the WWF decreased noticeably. At Summerslam , he drew attention again: In a Hair vs. He lost Hair Match to D-Generation X -member X-Pac and had to part with his long blond locks, which up to this point were his trademark.

With a new brush haircut and a new utensil, a guitar with the words “Don't p *** me off!”, He returned shortly afterwards and, in the fight against the D-Generation X, rallied the Southern Justice tag team, which from the previous Godwinns . At In your House they lost to X-Pac and the New Age Outlaws .

For that were Owen Hart and an old friend on the plan: Debra McMichael, which from now on as her manager acted. Together they won the WWF Tag Team Championship . Their time as champions was quite successful, but on March 30, 1999 they lost the title to X-Pac and Kane . The successful collaboration with Owen Hart came to an abrupt end when he had a fatal accident on In Your House- "Over the Edge" . Actually, at this event, Hart disguised as a blue blazer should have won the Godfather's WWF Intercontinental Championship, so Jarrett won the belt in his place a little later.

Jarrett's title reign was marked by multiple losses and regains: He lost him briefly to Edge , but was able to secure the gold again a little later. Shortly before the Summerslam , WWF European Champion D-Lo Brown won the title, at the actual event Mark Henry betrayed his partner D-Lo and Jarrett won both titles that were at stake. On RAW, he transferred the European title to Henry the following day, because Henry had helped him.

Behind the scenes, however, dark clouds had come back for Jarrett. Spurred on by his statement that Steve Austin's branding "Austin 3:16" was tantamount to blasphemy and blasphemy, Austin prevented Jarrett from becoming a main event. Due to an unfortunate chain of events, Jarrett's expiring contract with the WWF was no longer renewed and he switched to the WCW.

Vince McMahon had tried to save the contract negotiations conducted on his behalf by Jim Ross . Especially since Jarrett still held the Intercontinental Champion title, it was important to him that he did not take the WWF title with him to the competition. But Jarrett had already signed with the WCW. The owner of the WWF is said to have given him a horrific sum so that he first lost the title to Chyna . (Not the first time, even in July 1996 when Jeff Jarrett's contract with WWF had expired and he already had a WCW contract, he was still the current Intercontinental Champion. To avoid the shame of Jarrett being named undefeated champion or champion. even switched with the belt to the competition, the WWF reluctantly offered him a very highly endowed fee check so that Jarrett would lose the belt to Shawn Michaels on July 23, 1996 at In Your House II, which he did.) That he would lose his this time Losing a champion belt to a woman was a kind of humiliation for Jarrett on the part of the WWF, who had felt betrayed by him. After Jarrett left WWF, McMahon announced that because of Jarrett's unreliability, the door to WWF would from now on remain closed to him forever.

Return to the WCW (1999-2001)

Jarrett returned to WCW a day after his last WWF event, No Mercy. After losing to Dustin Rhodes in a bunkhouse brawl at Starrcade , he played his second match against Chris Benoit in the co-main event . In the best fight of the evening, a ladder match for the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship title , Jarrett lost, but won the title in the rematch a day later. That same night he also teamed up with Bret Hart , Kevin Nash and Scott Steiner to reissue the New World Order .

Since the events of the WCW at that time had poor audience numbers and reviews, Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo joined forces to start a new upheaval. This all happened in the run-up to Spring Stampede. All titles were declared vacant and re-fought at the event, including the US title. Jeff Jarrett and Diamond Dallas Page should now fight for the heavyweight title among themselves. Double J won the match with the help of DDP's Valet Kimberley. Jarrett won his first World Heavyweight title. Although he lost it a short time later, he was able to get it back in a triple cage match at Slamboree. With a few brief interruptions, Jarrett held the title until Bash At The Beach 2000 .

Behind the scenes, Hulk Hogan used his influence to get the bash champion again. But during the actual match, Jarrett just lay down and was casually covered by Hogan. Subsequently, WCW part boss Vince Russo held a shoot speech against Hogan and then fired him. Jarrett and Booker T finally fought in the main event for the title, which Booker secured. In the following rematches, Jarrett also had to admit defeat. For his final year at WCW, he was part of Ric Flair's heel group Magnificient Seven.

The WCW was then sold to the WWF and Jarrett was not taken over into the Federation, also due to the old quarrels with WWF owner Vince McMahon. This was evident on the last evening of WCW when McMahon fired Jarrett in front of the cameras at the beginning of the show.

World Wrestling All-Stars (2001-2003)

Without a job, Jarrett toured the independent scene to land on World Wrestling All-Stars. At the Inception PPV in Sydney , Australia , he secured the WWA World Heavyweight Champion title in a steel cage match against his former partner Road Dogg . However, he gave up this title in 2002 in order to devote himself to his most important project to date with his father Jerry: his own wrestling promotion.

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (2002-2011)

Jeff Jarrett decided to set up his own wrestling promotion in collaboration with his father and the NWA: NWA Total Nonstop Action Wrestling . On November 20, 2002 Jeff Jarrett was the first time NWA World Heavyweight Champion when he was allowed to defeat Ron Killings . With a victory over WWA champion Sting in a title union match, Jarrett finally closed the chapter "World Wrestling All-Stars".

It wasn't until June 2003 that Jeff lost his NWA World Heavyweight Title to AJ Styles. He got it back from the same at the end of the year, but lost the belt again to Styles in April 2004 after a long feud. Against Raven he was able to regain the title in September 2005 and held the title with a brief interruption by Rhino until February 2006, when he lost it to Christian Cage .

At TNA Slammiversary 2006 Double J aka Jeff Jarrett was able to secure the NWA World Heavyweight Championship again in a special Gímmickmatch. He prevailed against Sting, Christian Cage and Ron Killings, among others. Jim Cornette recognized the title from him during the event, but Jarrett was declared champion again in the next edition of "TNA Impact!" At the PPV TNA Bound for Glory he lost his title to Sting. This match was about Jarrett's title and Sting's career. He then took an active break.

In April 2007, Jeff Jarrett returned to the cameras, where he became involved in the feud between Team Angle and the Christian Coalition, presenting himself as the fifth man for Kurt Angle's team for the Lethal Lockdown match at Lockdown 2007. This was followed by a feud against Robert Roode . Jarrett then retired from his active roles at TNA after his wife Jill developed cancer and died from it. In addition to his backstage work, he took care of the upbringing of their daughters.

Jarrett made his comeback at No Surrender 2008, where he intervened in the match for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and cost Kurt Angle the match with a single blow with a guitar. This led to a feud in which he also involved Mick Foley as a new TNA worker and a. directed the match between Jarrett and Angle at Bound for Glory in 2008, which Jarrett won. The feud developed when Angle formed the Main Event Mafia with Sting, Booker T, and Kevin Nash. Jarrett himself allied with the TNA Frontline. The feud lasted until June 2009, after which Jarrett retired again and only returned as a wrestler at the end of the year.

In 2010 there was another feud against Sting. Newly signed legends such as Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair were also involved in this, which ended in a lethal lockdown match between Team Hogan and Team Flair with Sting. Jarrett was on the side of Hogan's team, which ultimately won. A number of matches followed in subsequent PPVs and Impact editions. At Bound for Glory 2010, he turned to heel again when he first abandoned Samoa Joe in a tag team match and later became part of a storyline in which a group around Hulk Hogan, including well-known wrestlers such as Jeff Hardy , Abyss , AJ Styles or Beer Money Inc. , which took power over TNA. This was the creation of the Immortal Stables .

Shortly afterwards, Jeff Jarrett started an MMA storyline in the wake of the MMA boom, in which he posed several exhibition matches with amateur fighters. This then led to a feud with Kurt Angle, which is based on a real background: As early as 2008, Jarrett had an affair with Angle's wife Karen, who then divorced the Olympic champion and married Jarrett. This background was included for the storyline. After the feud ended in June 2011, Jeff Hardy was the next opponent. In the wake of this, Jarrett and Karen were released in December 2011 after losing a match . Since then he has appeared for a few matches in Japan, India and the Mexican AAA league . On January 6, 2014, Jarrett left the TNA league leadership completely and is now a silent partner.

Jarrett returned to TNA Wrestling with his wife Karen Jarrett on June 24, 2015 . Jarrett announced that he will be part of the King of the Mountain machinations on Slammiversary XIII. Jarrett won his third King of the Mountain match, becoming the new TNA King of the Mountain Champion on June 28, 2015 . On August 12, Jarrett was named General Manager of Impact Wrestling by TNA President Dixie Carter after General Manager Bully Ray was attacked. The following week it became known that Karen Jarrett had orchestrated the attacks on Bully Ray and Drew Galloway . Jarrett turned his back on Carter and decided to ally with his wife. On the September 16 episode of Impact Wrestling, Carter challenged Jarrett for full control of TNA in a 10-man tag team match. In the September 16 edition of Impact Wrestling, Team TNA defeated Team GFW in a lethal lockdown match. This gave Dixie Jarrett's ownership and full control of TNA. It was later reported that Jarrett had sold his minority stake in Panda Energy.

On January 5, 2017, it was announced that Jarrett had joined Impact Wrestling, now owned by Anthem Sports & Entertainment.
