The New Age Outlaws ( English for: "The outlaws of the new time") are a tag team of the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE ), which achieved its greatest degree of popularity during the so-called Attitude era. It consists of "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn and the "Road Dogg" Jesse James .

Beginnings and time in the WWF

The New Age Outlaws were in 1997 in an edition of Shotgun Saturday Night formed when the previously vefehdeten James and Gunn - then still under the name The Real Double J and Rock-A-Billy the dispute beilegten merged and himself. Their first joint title they were allowed to win on November 24, 1997 from the Legion of Doom and hold until the following Wrestlemania . There they lost them to Mankind and Chainsaw Charlie , but got them back one evening later in a steel cage match. On this occasion, they also joined the Degeneration-X.

After losing the title to Kane and Mankind in 1998 , the Outlaws were allowed to win the title again at SummerSlam . In December 1998 they gave up the Tag Team titles to the Big Bossman and Ken Shamrock and received more individual matches and titles. After a win against Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett at In your House in April 1999, the split followed, followed by a feud between the two.

Towards the end of 1999, the D-Generation X, which had since been dissolved, was brought back to life by Triple H as a heel- stable and in the course of this the New Age Outlaws were reunited. On September 23, 1999, they received the Tag Team titles from The Rock and Mankind, but lost them again after three weeks. A month later, they took back the titles, this time from Mankind and Al Snow . After defending their titles at Armageddon and the Royal Rumble 2000, they lost their belts to the Dudley Boyz at No Way Out . One reason for this was a serious shoulder injury to Billy Gunn, which forced him to take a several-month injury break. The tag team was dissolved as a result.

Switch to TNA

In Total Nonstop Action Wrestling , James and Gunn - here now under the names BG James and Kip James - got together again in January 2006 as "The James Gang". Some feud programs followed, including against Dudley Boyz, who had also switched to TNA and operated under the name "Team 3D".

On February 26, 2006, Road Dogg and Billy Gunn took part in the MCW Resurrection event, where they defeated The Holy Rollers and The Slackers in a three way match and won the MCW Tag Team titles.

From November 16, the James Gang was renamed in the course of a storyline against the WWE and in particular Vince McMahon in "Voodoo Kin Mafia", VKM for short, a reference to McMahon's full name Vincent Kennedy McMahon. In the course of this storyline, VKM appeared on December 1st, accompanied by Vince Russo and a camera team, in front of the Knoxville Civic Center, where a WWE house show was being produced at the time. There they talked to fans, sold tickets and finally watched the main fight of the evening from the upper tiers of the hall. In the course of this storyline, the Voodoo Kin Mafia issued a "Million Dollar Challenge" to the Degeneration-X to organize a match between the two groups on neutral ground. However, this request was completely ignored by the WWE.

On February 21, 2008, the VKM was finally disbanded during a title match against AJ Styles and Tomko when Kip James attacked his partner . According to Vince Russo, who was then a clerk for TNA, the team was disbanded out of respect for Triple H, who was injured at the time.

Return to the WWE

On July 23, 2012, the New Age Outlaws returned to WWE as a degeneration along with Triple H, Shawn Michaels and X-Pac under the motto “One Night Only”. This happened as part of the RAW 1000 anniversary broadcast. This was followed by an appearance as presenters of the Slammy Award for Jerry Lawler , before the WWE involved them in a feud program against the Rhodes Scholars ( Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow ) during their house shows .

On January 6, 2014, they appeared at the side of CM Punk in his match against Roman Reigns . That same week they teamed up with him against The Shield , but lost that match. In the following RAW broadcast, they were supposed to compete against The Shield again, but left Punk in the lurch. This was followed by a feud against Cody Rhodes and Goldust , during which the outlaws were allowed to win the tag team titles in the kickoff show in front of the Royal Rumble.

On March 3, 2014, they lost the Tag Team title to the Usos .

style

The trademarks of the outlaws are the often rather bizarre outfits (hat brims, headscarves), provocative slogans, catch phrases that quickly became buzzwords, provocative actions such as B. bare buttocks or clear gestures.
