Ken Shamrock (* 11. February 1964 in Warner Robbins , Georgia as Kenneth Wayne Kilpatrick ) is an American wrestler and MMA fighters . He performed as a wrestler mainly for the market leader World Wrestling Federation and its later competitor TNA Wrestling . Shamrock is the first UFC Superfight Champion and former NWA World Heavyweight Champion . In 2003 he was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame .
Life
Kenneth Kilpatrick was moved to a home in Susanville, California when he was 14 . At the age of 18 he was adopted by Bob Shamrock, the director of the home, and took his name. As a child, he said he wanted to be a football player . In 1988 he switched to wrestling.
MMA career
After Shamrock had made a name for himself with various shootfight organizations in Japan, he was invited in 1993 to take part in the first Ultimate Fighting Championship . In contrast to show wrestling, this was a real competition in which fighters from different disciplines competed against each other. After defeating Tae Kwon Do fighter Patrick Smith in the quarterfinals , he had to give up in the second round against eventual tournament winner Royce Gracie after he had been put in a stranglehold. In the third edition of this tournament, Shamrock entered again and also won his first two fights to qualify for the final, in which he could no longer participate due to an injury. Subsequently, Shamrock shuttled back and forth between the Japanese Pancrase and the American UFC, fighting against Bas Rutten , Maurice Smith, Masakatsu Funaki, Oleg Taktarov and Dan Severn, against whom he was the first in July 1995 at UFC 6 UFC Superfight title could win, made a name.
In 2000, Ken Shamrock returned to mixed martial arts and fought a few fights at the Japanese PRIDE Fighting Championship before signing again with the UFC to deal with his long-standing dispute with light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz . Ortiz had shown both middle fingers in the corner of Mezger's ring after a win against Guy Mezger, a training partner and student of Shamrock, whereupon Shamrock and Ortiz fought a word battle. Ortiz won the fight as Shamrock's corner threw in the towel after three rounds. Shamrock and Ortiz faced each other two more times in the ring, with Ortiz finishing the fight in the first round.
Shamrock was hired as a coach for the third season of The Ultimate Fighter and there was also Tito Ortiz as an opponent.
In early 2008, Shamrock and his son Ryan Shamrock signed a contract with the British mixed martial arts organization Cage Rage, where he met Robert Berry on March 8, 2008. After a fight with Ross Clifton in February 2009, Ken Shamrock tested positive for steroids and was banned for a year.

Beginnings
Ken Shamrock was trained as a wrestler by Bob Sawyer, Buzz Sawyer and Nelson Royal. He made his debut in South Atlantic Pro Wrestling in 1990 under the ring name Wayne Shamrock. Later the ring name was changed to Vince Torelli. Under this name he mainly appeared as a heel . In 1990 Shamrock traveled to Japan, where he performed for the Universal Wrestling Federation . He initially stayed with wrestling until the mid-1990s, after which he began a career in various martial arts .
World Wrestling Federation (1997-1999)
Shamrock returned to wrestling in 1997; on February 24, 1997, he signed a three-year $ 3 million contract with WWF. From now on he called himself Ken Shamrock and got the nickname "The World's Most Dangerous Man" (" Most Dangerous Man in the World"). On March 23, 1997, he was referee in a fight between Bret Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin at Wrestlemania 13.
Shamrock's debut match at WWE was fraught with controversy. Here he went up against Vader and pounded him for several minutes with very hard kicks and blows. Shamrock forgot the difference between MMA and wrestling and was then knocked out by Vader, a former boxer, with one blow.
Following Wrestlemania 13, Shamrock himself actively returned to the ring. He had a feud program with Bret Hart and his Hart Foundation during the year . This ended when Shamrock lost to the British Bulldog in Summerslam '97 . But in December of that year he got a WWF championship match against Shawn Michaels , which he was allowed to win by disqualification, but according to the rules did not receive the title.
In early 1998 Shamrock feuded with WWF Intercontinental Champion Rocky Maivia . In June Shamrock won the King of the Ring tournament. Also in 1998 he was allowed to hold both the WWF Intercontinental title and the WWF World Tag Team title together with the Big Boss Man . In the following period he had a feud with Owen Hart , while Hart defeated Shamrock in a "Hart Family Dungeon" and Shamrock Hart in a "Lion's-Den" match. On February 14th he had to surrender the Intercontinental title back to Val Venis and then played a program against the Ministry of Darkness group . After further feuding programs with Steve Blackman and Chris Jericho , he left the organization in late 1999.
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling / Impact Wrestling (2002, 2004, 2019)
After a detour to mixed martial arts , he came back to wrestling in March 2002 and was a guest referee at the Ring of Honor . In May of that year he also returned to the ring as an active player at TNAW and received the NWA World Heavyweight title there . He was allowed to hold it until August 7th and left the organization. In June 2004 he joined TNAW again for a very short time.
