background
UFC 1 was the first event hosted by the UFC. A tournament format with eight participants was used, which was carried out in a knockout system . The winner of this tournament promised promotion prize money of 50,000 US dollars .
The individual fights were fought almost without rules, only touching the eyes and biting the opponent were prohibited. There were also no weight classes , laps, time restrictions, time outs or judges. A fight could only be decided by knockout , surrender or technical knockout after throwing a towel from the corner of a fighter.
The commentators for the event were Bill Wallace , Jim Brown and Kathy Long, who were also assisted by Rod Machado and Brian Kilmeade . The Brazilians João Alberto Barreto and Hélio Vigio acted as referees.
course
At the beginning of the event, Jason DeLucia defeated his opponent Trent Jenkins by giving up after just under a minute. If a participant in the tournament had not been able to play his next fight due to an injury, DeLucia would have stood in for him as the winner of the alternative fight. However, that did not happen.
Then the individual fights of the tournament were held one after the other. The Dutchman Gerard Gordeau and the Brazilian Royce Gracie qualified for the final, in which Gracie defeated his opponent by giving up after one minute and 40 seconds and thus crowned himself the first winner of a UFC tournament.
