The WWE Raw Tag Team Championship is a tag team - wrestling title of US doctoral WWE who exclusively to the tag team division of Raw is awarded -Rosters. Introduced on October 20, 2002, the title was originally only given to the SmackDown Roster tag teams . Today it is one of the four tag team titles defended in the WWE. The current titleholders in their first joint reign are The Street Profits Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford . As is common in wrestling, the award is based on a previously determined storyline .
history
After the WWF bought the WCW , the roster was split into the shows Raw and SmackDown , as the mass of superstars after the purchase of the WCW was too big for a roster. The World Tag Team Championship was allocated to Raw , which meant that SmackDown no longer had a Tag Team title available. Because of this, the then SmackDown General Manager Stephanie McMahon presented the newly created WWE Tag Team Championship and announced that the first titleholders would be determined in an eight-team tournament. The first title holders were Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle after winning the tournament .
On October 17, 2007, SmackDown and ECW announced that both roster can appear on both shows. As a result, the title was given to the tag team division of the Smackdown and ECW rooster. In 2009, then- WWE Tag Team Champions Carlito and Primo (The Colóns) led a feud with then- World Tag Team Champions John Morrison and The Miz . On March 17th, it was announced in ECW that at WrestleMania XXV , both teams would defend their title in a tag team match. The winning team would hold both titles after the match. The Colóns defeated Morrison and Miz and the title was combined with the World Tag Team Championship to form the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship . The August 16, 2010 Raw edition announced that the World Tag Team Championship would be abolished. The WWE Tag Team Championship got a new design, which was presented by Bret Hart in the arena.
Since the second raster split in 2016, the title, now Raw Tag Team Championship , has only been awarded to the raw raster's tag teams . In the Raw edition after Roadblock: End of the Line 2016, the title got a new design with a red belt to emphasize the connection to Raw .
