Robert Francis Roode Jr. (born May 11, 1977 in Peterborough , Ontario ) is a Canadian wrestler who is currently under contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Roode is a former TNA World Heavyweight Champion .

Wrestling career

Beginnings

Roode began his career in June 1998 and was trained in his hometown by Shane Sewell and Sean Morley . Subsequently, he could be seen in the independent scene and in dark matches at WWE until 2004 .

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (2004-2016)

In May 2004, Roode was signed by Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and made his debut as a member of Team Canada . Here won it along with Eric Young , twice namely on 10 October 2004 and on 7 December 2004, the NWA World Tag Team Championship . He was a member of this team until July 2006, before the group had to break up. This was followed by feuds with, among others, Eric Young and Booker .

In the TNA-iMPACT! - Issued June 12, 2008, Roode began an alliance with James Storm and feuded against reigning Tag Team Champions LAX ( Hernandez & Homicide ). From these, the tag team Roode / Storm, which from then on competed under the name Beer Money Inc. , won the TNA World Tag Team Championship at Hard Justice on August 10, 2008 . They held this until December 16, 2008 at TNA iMPACT , but won them back at Genesis on January 11, 2009 from Lethal Consequences ( Jay Lethal and Consequences Creed ). The renewed loss of the title followed at Lockdown on April 10, 2009 to Team 3D . At Slammiversary on June 21, 2009, Roode and Storm got the tag team title back. On July 19, 2009 at Victory Road they had to hand over the title to the Main Event Mafia ( Booker T and Scott Steiner ). In June 2010, Roode became part of the Fortune group . At Genesis on January 9, 2011, Roode again received the tag team title with Storm after a victorious match against the Motor City Machine Guns ( Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin ). On August 9, 2011 at Impact Wrestling , they lost the title to Mexican America (Anarquia & Hernandez). This is the longest title reign in TNA's tag team to date.

At the major event No Surrender on September 11, 2011, he won the Bound for Glory Series , which he secured the right to a title match. However, he lost this match at the major event Bound for Glory on October 16, 2011 against the then TNA World Heavyweight Championship Kurt Angle . Two weeks later on October 26, 2011, he won the Impact Wrestling Recorded Title from tag team mate James Storm, which spelled the end of Beer Money . On July 8, 2012 at Destination X , Roode lost the title after Austin Aries' longest title reign . Together with Aries he won the TNA World Tag Team Championship again at the Impact Wrestling Records of January 25, 2013 , but they had to give it back to the previous titleholders Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez on April 11, 2013 .

On December 18, 2014, he defeated Lashley and won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship for the second time . He lost the title to Lashley on January 7, 2015. On July 28, 2015, he won the TNA King of the Mountain Championship from PJ Black . He lost the title to Eric Young on January 6, 2016. On January 5, 2016 in the debut edition on the new broadcaster PopTV, James Storm celebrated his return to TNA, which also reunited Beer Money Inc. They then feuded against Eric Young and Bram. On January 31, 2016, they won the TNA World Tag Team Championship from The Wolves ( Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards ) . They lost the title to Decay ( Abyss and Crazzy Steve) on March 19, 2016 . After the defeat, Roode left TNA after twelve years.

NXT Champion (2016-2017)

On April 1, 2016 on NXT TakeOver: Dallas , Roode was featured in the crowd. At the next major NXT event on June 8, 2016 at NXT TakeOver: The End , Roode appeared in the background of the scene during an interview with William Regal and entered his office. On June 11, 2016, he played at a NXT house show his first match in WWE, where he defeated Angelo Dawkins. Roode made his television debut in WWE on the August 3, 2016 edition of NXT. He defeated Andrade Almas at the major NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II event . Roode took part in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic 2016 with Tye Dillinger as a partner . In the October 12th edition of NXT, they lost to SAnitY ( Alexander Wolfe and Sawyer Fulton) in the first round after Roode turned against his partner. He then started a feud against Tye Dillinger. This ended on NXT TakeOver: Toronto on November 19, 2016 after Roode defeated Tye Dillinger. On January 28, 2017 on NXT TakeOver: San Antonio he defeated Shinsuke Nakamura and won the NXT Championship for the first time . After several successful title defenses, including against Kassius Ohno , Shinsuke Nakamura, Hideo Itami and Roderick Strong , he lost the title on August 19, 2017 at NXT: TakeOver Brooklyn III to Drew McIntyre . Shortly thereafter, he left NXT and rose to the WWE main roster .

United States Champion (2017-2018)

Roode made his debut on the main roster in the SmackDown Live edition on August 22, 2017 with a win against Aiden English . Feuds against Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin followed. On January 16, 2018, Roode won a tournament for the vacant WWE United States Championship at SmackDown . In the final, he prevailed against Jinder Mahal and was crowned WWE United States Champion by winning the tournament . He was able to successfully defend this title against Mojo Rawley and Rusev , but lost it on March 11, 2018 at Fastlane to Randy Orton . Together with Charlotte Flair , Roode also took part in the first season of the Mixed Match Challenge in 2018 , but both were defeated in the final of this tournament to the team from Asuka and The Miz.

Heel-turn and various feuds (since 2018)

At the superstar shake-up after Wrestlemania, Roode switched to Raw on April 16, 2018. On June 17th, he took part in the traditional ladder match at Money in the Bank , but could not win. On September 3, Roode formed a tag team with Chad Gable , with whom he jointly became team captain for the Tag Team Elimination match for Raw at Survivor Series on November 18, 2018 . They then feuded against the Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) and finally won a handicap match against them and their manager Drake Maverick in the December 10, 2018 edition of Raw . Roode pinned Maverick. They lost the title two months later in the February 11, 2019 Raw edition to The Revival . Since the Raw edition on April 22, 2019, he has appeared in the WWE under the name Robert Roode, and the tag team between him and Chad Gable was separated . In the May 20, 2019 edition of Raw , Roode won the newly introduced WWE 24/7 Championship from Titus O'Neil , but this reign ended that same night and later lost the title to R-Truth . In August he formed a tag team with Dolph Ziggler . On September 15, 2019, he won the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship from Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins with him . The reign lasted 29 days and finally lost the title on October 14, 2019 to The Viking Raiders Erik & Ivar. As part of the WWE Draft, Roode switched from Raw to SmackDown on October 14, 2019 .

Robert Roode was banned from the WWE for 30 days on December 10, 2019 for violating anti-doping guidelines. On January 10, 2020, he returned to the SmackDown shows and attacked with Dolph Ziggler and King Corbin, The Usos and Roman Reigns. On June 22, 2020, Roode joined Raw.
