Sowold was a center field pitcher and has received several scholarships through his football involvement . He then studied communication at Winona State University in Winona , Minnesota . However, he changed this and then studied psychology . During this time he worked as a waiter in a bar . He studied for several years, and in the meantime founded a band called "Zeno's Revenge". However, Sowold then decided that he would rather become a professional wrestler. He is a strict vegetarian and often gives tips and tricks about being a vegetarian on his website. His wrestler name is made up of his zodiac sign ( Aries ) and his favorite wrestler from his childhood (Austin Idol). He also has the symbol of the zodiac Aries tattooed on his arm. He is currently dating the wrestler Lacey.

Wrestling career

Independent (2000-2004)

Solwold first trained with the two coaches Eddie Sharkey and Terry Fox in 2000 and made his debut in November of the same year. Solwold was initially only active in the west of the States, but later also appeared in the east.

Ring of Honor (2004-2005)

His first big fight was against Christopher Daniels . Daniels noticed Solwold's potential in this fight and put in a good word for him in his "home league" Ring of Honor , which Solwold got into a ring for the first time at Reborn Stage 2 in Chicago Ridge, Illinois on April 24, 2004. From there on, Solwold went under the name Austin Aries, as the name Dan Sexton could not be marketed as well. In the course of the year, a group of Alex Shelley , Roderick Strong , Jack Evans and Solwold developed, which was called Generation Next. The background to this idea was that the 4 young wrestlers wanted to be brought to the top of the league together.

At the end of 2004 Solwold was able to achieve his greatest success to date at the event "Final Battle" and won the Ring of Honor World Championship against Samoa Joe . After 6 months without losing the title, he lost the title to CM Punk . He then became chief coach of the Ring of Honor Wrestling School and took over this position from the aforementioned CM Punk. The Generation Next group broke up in mid-2006, but Solwold then continued to tag a team with Roderick Strong. Together they became Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions. The two lost the title to the "Kings of Wrestling" Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli . In early 2007, however, Roderick Strong attacked Solwold and separated from him to build their own team together with Davey Richards and Rocky Romero.

Ring of Honor / Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (2005-2007)

During his engagement with Ring of Honor, the league Total Nonstop Action Wrestling became aware of him. Solwold had another fight against Christopher Daniels and was signed a little later after a good performance. At TNA, Generation Next was revived with a slightly different line-up (Solwold, Roderick Strong and Alex Shelley), but the grouping was less successful than before at Ring of Honor. In early February 2006, Strong and Solwold were suspended for two months after they had been for a pay per view arrived 4 hours late, while they were still there before the match against their opponent The Naturals. This situation arose because the two wanted to stay longer at a RoH show and so missed their plane.

Solwold on his comeback for TNA

Due to some incidents Roderick Strong had decided to leave TNA and so you had to let Solwold compete as a single wrestler. They wanted to give Solwold a new gimmick . This was wooed in the run-up to Bound for Glory 06 with the slogan A Starr is Born . Austin Aries became Austin Starr. Solwold was able to win his first appearance as Austin Starr in the " Kevin Nash Open Invitational X Division Gauntlet Battle Royal ". With this gimmick change, Solwold had to embody a heel for the first time in his career . After Bob Backlund came to TNA in spring 2007 and performed there, Solwold and Backlund wanted to start a feud. Backlund "made sure" that Starr lost the "Paparazzi Championship Series". Senshi sided with Backlund and so there was a match between him and Solwold, but this feud was broken off. At the same time, Solwold was also active for Ring of Honor on the weekends.

However, since Ring of Honor announced that it would start producing pay-per-views in mid-2007 , TNA Solwold banned from appearing at RoH in the future. However, Daniel Solwold was suspended from TNA at the time due to inappropriate backstage behavior and could not compete anywhere.

Ring of Honor (2007-2010)

However, on the weekend of June 22nd, he performed at two Ring of Honor shows and signed a contract with ROH in the ring. On the official homepage of Ring of Honor, however, it has now been announced that Solwold will be competing for Ring of Honor again from the beginning of August.

At the ROH event "Manhattan Mayhem III" on June 13, 2009, Solwold and Tyler Black challenged reigning ROH World Champion Jerry Lynn in a three way elimination match for his title. In the match, Tyler Black was initially able to pin the champion, but was ultimately defeated by Aries, who became the first two-time World Champion of the Ring of Honor. On February 13, 2010, he lost the title to Tyler Black. He left the Ring of Honor in October 2010.

Dragon Gate USA / Evolve (2010-2011)

From October 29, 2010 Solwold appeared for the promotions Dragon Gate USA and Evolve . On June 9, 2011, it was announced that he had left both organizations.

At the Impact Wrestling Tapings on June 13, 2011, Solwold made his comeback for TNA. On July 10, 2011 at Destination X , he won a new promotion contract in a match against other former TNA wrestlers. On July 5, 2012 at Impact Wrestling, he gave up the title for a chance at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at Destination X against Bobby Roode , as General Manager Hulk Hogan did not want a title holder for two weight classes. This was the longest title reign to date for the TNA X Division Championship . At Destination X on July 8, 2012, Solwold then won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship for the first time . He lost the title again at Bound For Glory on October 14, 2012 to Jeff Hardy .

At the Impact Wrestling Recordings on January 25, 2013, he and Bobby Roode won the TNA World Tag Team Championship for the first time , but they had to give it back to them on April 11, 2013. Solwold won the TNA X Division Championship for the second time on June 20, 2013 , after beating previous titleholders Chris Sabin and Kenny King. Previously, he attacked Suicide and took part in his gimmick in the title match. Just nine days later he gave the title back to Sabin. On November 23, 2013, he defeated Chris Sabin and won the TNA X Division Championship for the third time . He lost the title to Chris Sabin 12 days later. He got the title back from Chris Sabin on January 16, 2014. On March 2, 2014, he lost the title to Seiya Sanada at a joint show by TNA and WRESTLE-1. On June 20, 2014, he took the title back from Sanada. Five days later, he redeemed Option C for the second time and gave up the title again to get a chance at Destination X at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship from Lashley . However, he lost to Lashley at Destination X and could not win the title. On January 7th, 2015 he won the TNA X Division Championship from Low Ki and won this title for the sixth time. A day later he lost the title again to Low Ki.

On June 30, 2015, his contract, which he did not renew, expired and left the TNA.
