The ROH World Championship (to German ROH World Cup ) is the most important wrestling title for individual wrestlers from ROH . The title is a World Heavyweight Title and has already been defended in other wrestling leagues through the cooperation of the Ring of Honor with the Global Professional Wrestling Alliance. As is common in wrestling, the award is based on a previously determined storyline.
history
Low Ki defeated Spanky , Christopher Daniels and Doug Williams in a 60 minute Ironman match to become the first Ring of Honor Champion. This happened on the show Crowning a Champion on July 27, 2002.
So far, Samoe Joe has had the longest title reign, holding the title for 21 months and 4 days, a total of 645 days. During this time, the ROH Title became the ROH World Title after Samoe Joe successfully defended the title in England on May 17, 2003 at a Frontier Wrestling Alliance show called Frontiers of Honor . Since then, the title has been defended in Germany , Canada , Switzerland , Austria , Mexico and Japan alongside the USA .
On August 12, 2006, the ROH Pure Championship was combined with the ROH World Title after a unification battle between then World Champion Bryan Danielson and then Pure Champion Nigel McGuinness . Danielson won this match and then combined both titles.
To date, Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness have had the most title defenses behind them with a total of 38 (Danielson: 33 wins, 1 loss, 3 time-limit draws and one double disqualification / McGuinness: 34 wins, 3 defeats, 1 time-limit Draw).
