Edison is a parish in Middlesex County , New Jersey , United States . In the 2010 census , 99,967 inhabitants were registered. This made Edison the fifth largest town in New Jersey.
history
The city was founded in the 17th century and was initially called Raritan Township . In 1876 Thomas Alva Edison settled in the Menlo Park urban development area . In these laboratories he made several groundbreaking discoveries, including a. He also invented the light bulb there . In 1886 he moved the laboratories to West Orange . On November 10, 1954, the city changed its name to Edison in honor of the inventor .
