West Orange is a township in Essex County in the US state of New Jersey . The 2010 census recorded a population of 46,207.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 31.7 km² , of which 31.4 km² is land and 0.3 km² (0.90%) is water.
Demographics
As of the 2000 census, there are 44,943 people, 16,480 households and 11,684 families in the city. The population density is 1,431.7 inhabitants per km². 67.55% of the population are White, 17.46% African American , 0.14% Native American , 8.09% Asian , 0.04% Pacific Islander , 3.52% from other races, and 3.20% mixed race . 10.04% are Latinos of various origins.
Of the 16,480 households, 32.2% have children under the age of 18. 56.0% of these are married couples living together, 11.2% are single mothers, 29.1% are not families, 24.6% are single households and 11.6% are people over 65. The average household size is 2 , 66, the average family size 3.19.
23.3% of the population are under 18 years old, 6.2% between 18 and 24, 29.7% between 25 and 44, 23.4% between 45 and 64, 17.4% older than 65. The average age is 39 years. The ratio of women to men is 100: 88.6, for people older than 18 the ratio is 100: 84.0.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 69,254 and the median income for a family is $ 83,375. Males have a median income of $ 52,029 versus $ 39,484 for females.
