Women of Honor Championship |
Women of Honor World Championship was a wrestling title from the Ring of Honor (ROH) wrestling promotion . Like all wrestling titles, it was awarded as part of a fictional storyline . The title was discontinued on January 1, 2020 and replaced with the ROH Women's World Championship .
history
The title was announced under the name Women of Honor World Championship on December 15, 2017 at the Pay Per View Final Battle . It was awarded as part of a tournament that began on January 20, 2018 between the regular female wrestlers of ROH and the Japanese league World Wonder Ring Stardom . The Japanese wrestler Sumie Sakai became the first champion on April 7, 2018. On August 25, 2018, the title was renamed Women of Honor World Championship .
After three years and a total of six title changes, the title was discontinued on January 1, 2020. This was preceded by a concussion from Championess Kelly Klein. Klein publicly complained about the lack of medical care and assistance from Ring of Honor. In November 2019, she received the news that her contract, which ran until December 31, 2019, would not be extended. This dispute was also carried out in public.
Instead of declaring the title vacant, it is to be replaced by the ROH Women's World Championship. A tournament has been scheduled for this, which will be fought out at Quest for Gold from April 24, 2020 .
