The ROH World Television Championship is a wrestling title for individual wrestlers from Ring of Honor (ROH). As is common in wrestling, the award is based on a previously determined storyline .

history

The title was introduced to fill the gap in the ROH midcard range that resulted from the abolition of the ROH Pure Championship in 2006 .

To introduce the title, a tournament should first be recorded on February 5th and 6th, 2010. However, a blizzard prevented the second date, so the final round was not recorded until March 5, 2010. There were eight participants in the tournament: Kevin Steen , Kenny King, Colt Cabana , Davey Richards , Delirious, Eddie Edwards , El Generico and Rhett Titus . The final took place on March 5th. Eddie Edwards defeated Davey Richards to become the first ROH World Television Champion

The television title was inactive between March and June 2011 after the Ring of Honor lost its television deal with HDNet . When they joined the Sinclair Broadcasting Group and a new TV show was established, the title was reactivated.

Current title holder

The current ROH World Television Champion is Dragon Lee in his first reign. He defeated previous title holder Shane Taylor in the Final Battle 2009 event for the Ring of Honor television show on December 13, 2019.

Appearance

The title was introduced on March 5, 2010 when it was bestowed on Eddie Edwards. The belt was designed by All Star Championship Belts. It consists of a black belt with four small silver plates and a large silver plate in the middle. The silver plates have a blue background. The outer panels show a drawing by a cameraman, the two inner panels a map of the earth. The Ring of Honor logo is on each plate. The words "World Television Wrestling Champion" are written under the ROH logo on the large plate. An earth with a television satellite was chosen as the image.

The design was changed to its current design in November 2012 under the reign of Adam Cole. So the blue was removed and instead of the previous front print, the focus was on the ROH logo. When Jay Lethal received the title, he had the design changed so that the words ROH Champion were more prominent. It was a storyline in which he claimed the title was more important than the ROH World Championship . Jay Lethal held the title for 567 days, at times together with the World Title.
